Question Thinking about a V-8 Swap in a 99' Ranger....

Hey all,

I recently replaced the broken origional 4-banger from my FIL's 99' ranger with a junkyard 4-banger. Now he wants to get an econo car, and said he will give me the truck come the new year... Its decent, but its a 4-banger! I was looking around and saw that V-8 swaps on these trucks are pretty common.

I figure a 5.0 or similar SB would be nice and throw in a AOD trany. I did some research on swaps, but they seem to be geard around older trucks. I'm looking for some specific info on swaping out motors on newer trucks like this 99'.

Do you all know of any "How to's" on this project? Any sudgestions?

TIA

Billy

PS, at this point, this is just mental mastrubation, as I dont even own the truck yet.

Thanks

If you want everything to work like stock and it to pass emissions use a 302 Explorer as a donor vehicle. It is mostly plug and play

That's what I'm looking for.... Same year or newer has the 302?

Thanks

Billy

PS

Did some research. Looks like I want the drive train from a 95-01 V-8 Explorer or Merc. Mountanier?

What all do I need besides:
  • Engine w/ mounts
  • Trans w/ Cross member
  • Computer
  • Wiring harness
Any sudgestions about mount conversion kits? Are they required (going from I-4 to V-8)?

Thanks again

Billy

In addition to the list you have, you'll need all the V8 accessories, and exhaust. You can get these easily from a V8 Explorer. Check around at local junkyards, online from Ebay or www.car-part.com
