Moving in a week need some idea's

Ok here is the deal. As soon as I'm done packing, I'm renting a Penski 26' diesel and moving to Mount Vernon, Washington. My thought was to get a car hauler and tow out the 250 behind the Penski. I found out from Penski and Uhaul they don't have a hauler that will accomadate the wheel base of the 250. I can drive out the Penski and then fly back for the 250, but would rather do it all at one time. I've also been told they don't make a tow bar that will do that much weight. I know this is a long shot, but maybe I'm overlooking an obvious answer. Any idea's on how to accomplish this without having to fly back? Any responses will be appreciated.

if there is a welding shop nearby you could have a tow bar fabricated

Hmm didn't think of that (obvious crap). If it's cheaper than an airline ticket and the extra fuel to drive out the 250, that's an idea. I assume I'd have to drop the driveshafts etc.

Get a last minute quote from a reputable mover. My buddy recently moved and could not believe how cheap it was. PA to Wash D.C. I do not remember the company name, as a matter of fact, I think they were local. None the less, its worth the shot to see what it will cost. Heck, till you figure in the cost of flying back, it may be the same if not cheaper. Might even save some back pain too.

don't think a tow dolly would carry the weight and the rental one aren't wide enough,I have a wide one and think it's 78"

pullinair I was thinking that too. I've seen that done before. I guess I'll get some quotes. In my heart I think it will be hard to beat flying back. It's just a PITA. Plus it'll be hard seeing my baby being handled by someone else. Good idea...thanks

rbaker6336 I'm thinking your right on that. I guess I'll do some measurements tomorrow, since I don't have a clue what the wheel base is length and width...

Yeah, I would not have recommended it if I did not know my buddy as good as I do. He is very tight with his $ and I was suprised he decided to hire someone. Heck, I was planning on moving him in a Uhaul and my truck until I found out. He has helped me move a couple of times and I was planning on putting the truck to use. Bummer.

Just in case everyone its over looking the obvious. Why not rent a trailer and tow it with the 250.

Towing the 250 istead of towing with the 250 is like putting the cart before the horse

If the welding shops in your area are like the ones here will probably cost $300 to $400 to build a tow bar

guess that would depend on how much you had to haul,if he needs a 26' truck it would take a train of u-hauls to haul as much

Yeah. I lived a one bedroom apartment and couldn't get all of my stuff in U-haul's biggest trailor (12').

I saw an RV towing a F350 dually with a tow bar when I was in NC for the nascar race, so Im sure they have one out there, the problem is finding it. Good luck.
