taskdillon is starting off with a positive reputation.
Red face engine swap/up grade

I have a 93 E-150 conversion van with a 5.0 (302). It has 194000+ on it . I know that I soon will need to rebuild or replace it. My question is what can I put in place of the 5.0 and how new can it be. The 2005 and newer have better gas mileage and better preformance. Will I need to replace the tranny and or the rearend to get the better mileage and .... well you all know haw that circle is. Need some ideas and advice.

a 5.8 would be a direct swap for what you currently have. anything else would require not only a tranny change but major wiring changes as well. then there is trying to fit a modular motor in between the frame. if you had a donor van with the newer setup it would help
