I once did a simple pads and shoes brake job on a truck that was in for a transmission rebuild as well.
I did the brakes first and then rebuilt the trans, but when I swap the pads I turn the wheel to get better access when I pry the pistons in and swap the pads.
The trans was done, installed and as I threw it into reverse to back out, the front end swung to the right sharply, OH, I forgot to straighten the front wheels, no biggie, step on the brakes and NOTHING, STEP AGAIN, NOTHING, THEN I REMEMBER THE 4 OR EVEN 6 PUMPS IT TAKES TO PUSH THOSE PISTONS BACK OUT TO APPLY THE PADS AND PUMP LIKE CRAZY!!!!
The right front fender of the truck was so close to the roll up door frame I can't see how it did not hit it.

Verified 19 mpg city taking off slow as hell the shutting down at red lights, and with the radiator grill blocked flush, no bed cover, "drag shoot" mirrors on I get 24 mpg at 50 to 55 mph on the freeway empty!
However, with a bed cover, no mirrors and Hydroxy
Hi guys, I have read all your postings on HHO and wanted to see if anyone had any opinions on something I ran across.Diesel Secret Energy - Alternative Biofuel Biodiesel Just wanting your educated opinions on this as fuel is starting to run in the 5.10/gal. range around here.

Lots of guys there make their own. Spend some time reading down there and don't be afraid to ask questions. I believe the general consensus is DSE is either a scam or just plane snake oil. Bottom line, stay away from it.
Not to discourage, but i dont think you'll hit 30 mpg. If you DO, you better tell me how.
I've never heard of 30 mpg out of a 3/4 ton truck of any brand. (I've experienced certain years of 5.9's than came scarily close on a 2wd dodge)
Well, I am getting better mileage as the weeks go on.
I remember back in the day during the first oil crunch, they touted 55 as the solution to saving fuel.
In the past weeks got 22 mpg (21.95 actually, but 22 is what I'll call it) on my last freeway trip going 60 to 65 mph, and I also took off from a stop and braked normally leaving the engine running while at the stop lights.
Yesterday I made the freeway trip again and tried a few things suggested by on line sources and from memory.
1: On the freeway I kept my speed at no less than 50 going up hill and no more than 55, actually focusing on maintaining 55 (A couple times made it up to about 62 but with almost no throttle, and going down a steep hill).
2: I took off from a stop real easy, like I had all the time in the world and coasted up to stop lights real lazy like, knowing that I pissed off everyone behind me loosing count of all the dirty looks I got, even from their kids in the back seat.
3: When coming up to a stop light that turned red just as I got there, and knowing I'd be there more than 30 seconds, I turned off the engine while sitting there.
I now have revised my signature to reflect the 23.97 mpg I got on that last trip!
DUDES, THAT'S 24 FREAKING MILES PER GALLON ON A 1991 F250 WITH AN UNMODIFIED 7.3 DIESEL, E4OD AND 3.55:1 GEARS!
I'm still fueling before and after the trip at the same pump, facing the same way, and taking the same rout to and from.
I also did the math twice so there are no mistakes, and on the trip there were about 10 miles of stop and go surface streets, so 24 mpg is assured as had the distance been 100% freeway miles, it should have been better.
The last guy had it totally stock and got 18 mpg on the freeway.
I blocked the grill and got up to 22 mpg from 60 to 65 mph.
So at 50 to 55 mph, and all the other fuel saving tips implemented, I got 24 mpg.
I am so stoked about this, I want to do more and see how far I can go!
1: Replace the mirrors with small cameras on the front fenders looking back, and at FRYS Electronics, the little color cameras were rather cheap, but finding the small 3X5-ish LCD monitors that would work well at a reasonable price.
2: Make round plates to mount to the surface of the stock hub caps to make the lug nut pocket of the wheel flush with the tires side walls.
3: Make an air dam for the front to go below the bumper almost to the ground and a skirt to go down the sides of the truck (making my truck look silly as hell in the process).
4: Make a smooth bed cover that slopes down from the top of the cab to the tail gate (a chore with my truck as the bed edge is screwed up and wavy).
5: Make a SMACK style HHO generator and install it, as this is supposed to give a healthy kick to the MPG's.
After these 5 things are done, I am thinking I just might gain another 6 mpg top 30 MPG!
When working at the dealership any new truck got our mud flaps and the stock ones were tossed out, I saved them thinking I could pave my garage with them, but when I moved from a 2.5 car garage to a small 1 car garage, they had to go, but they would have made a great skirt and if reinforced, a good front air dam.
Time to start cruising Free-cycle searching for some creative building materials.

Nicely done archangel. I was only able to manage 20 today, and I can't consider my result accurate because I think I overfilled my tanks when I got back from my trip so 20 is a conservative guess. I use one tank to head south, and then switch before heading back home to observe how prevailing winds can affect performance.
If I back off on the fuel nozzle its rather easy to fit another gallon in the tanks, and with only 9-10 gallons burned between the two tanks is rather easy for me to throw the results off.
30 MPG IS POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its been done before, and aero mods alone could get you there.
If my beater can get 20-22 MPG without any aero mods, than its definitely possible to do better. My truck has drag chute mirrors and running boards that do nothing for MPG.

archangel, have you looked at the body modifications they've done on those pick ups that run the nascar circuit? I'm sure those boys have spent more money researching drag than you could dream about. Maybe it's something you could imitate with your ground effects.
I know the air dam and skirts would be easier for me than a full belly pan, and there would be less air flow for the engine cooling as the grill is blocked off.
But the mirrors, bed cover and wheel covers I can do rather easily.
Blocking off the radiator off was mainly because of the winter cold and helping the Diesel engine warm up faster as I was freezing my toes off for too long after the block heater sizzled out and stopped working.

Just getting interested in this technology. Learning alot from many really smart people out there. Has anyone tried using a specific gravity meter for saltwater aquariums to monitor the need for more water or electrolyte? It would seem that this could monitor an ideal range and be more specific to the chemistry involved.
Haven't started building yet, but seriously considering it.
Welcome to FTE crabman. I think we all took Parklands very simple idea and tried to build a better mousetrap. If you do this, please keep us informed of your progress and what improvements you see. Pictures would be nice too.
Hello, First time posting. First this is an excellent site.
My name is Brian and I am a RVO... Recovering Volvo Owner...
I just bought our first X. 2003 6.0 for my wife and many kids. I have just had to cut one too many dead persons out of cheap light weight cars. say what you want about fords A post they do hold up in rollovers. I am a Vol. Texas Fire Fighter and we use the F-350 for brush trucks... and we beat the chevy out of them! Never had one fail on us... EVER! I hope Pierce is reading this..
On subject.... I have been building a using HHg gen. for a few year now. most in gas engines. I am building one now for the diesel, and if y'all want I will post detailed photos and drawing of how to build and install.
I have seen limited gains ffrom the HHg, and believe my time and money is better spent on WVO, but ya never know, maybe someone out there can make it work.
