Spare Parts List to Have in the Truck - Son is Headed to Alaska in 97 PSD

My son is leaving for Anchorage this week via the Ferry to Haines & then the ALCAN to Anchorage.

I'm new to the 7.3 PSD & so is he so we thought we'd throw this question to the experts.

Without breaking the bank, what parts or other misc would you carry in the truck for this year PSD?

We thought of: Spare CPS, Serpentine Belt, Glow Plugs, Antifreeze, 5 Gal Diesel; what else?

Thanks,

Del & Brett

Fuel additive to prevent gelling. Pint of Jack Danials to ward off snow snakes.
Is he going by himself? If he is take a blow up doll, from what I recall those Eskimo gals have really bad breath.

-tire plug kit and a spare tire. I don't have one and got into trouble once. When my tire came off the rim, I used starting fluid to "explode" the tire back on.

-Small air compressor so to air down when things get slick and then one can air back up
http://www.amazon.com/Master-Flow-MF...7282577&sr=1-2

-Spare battery if the current ones are old
-multi-meter
-chain, wire and rope to um... well.. do stuff if stuff happens
-shovel
-come-along or winch
-fire extinguisher
-extra gloves
-saw, axe or bowsaw.........

But all said and done, being prepared is like having a parachute in an airplane; worthless

Offroading guys have tons of lists on the web

Good list & good idea about the off-road site; I grabbed a few things off the site you provided.

Once I used one of those and refilled my tires in less than 10 min from completely flat to get me to the nearest tire shop.

Thanks for all the input, good info.

I just bought him 2 early Christmas presents:

500amp battery jump starter (not sure exactly what they are called) just in case he needs to crank it more than normal or drains the battery

(and)

Mr Heater Portable Buddy propane heater that is supposedly indoor safe in case they break down & need some heat before help arrives.

he could carry a lot i used to before i sold it all last year i.e.(cps,throttle pedal, idm, uvc's, new vc plugs,6203 2rsj bearings....... etc etc)

at a minimum i would carry the following

serp belt
chains for the tires
spare tire x 2
cps
tools
diesel

DIESEL KLEEN

everything else wont do him any good if he doesnt have the tools for it or the know how.

i probably shouldnt post this on here but over at tds they have an extensive HELP NETWORK have him print it out for all the states and provinces he will be driving through so he will have that at his disposal if need be. ton of fellow strokers in AK...

good luck
