You can do the same thing to a Detriot or Cummins with a Pittsburg power programmer. Yes they make programmers for BIG trucks. It has 6 settings. When set on "6" it will boost HP about 200. My 12.7 Detriot 500Hp turned into an animal after I had them install it. Fuel mileage went up.... But you have to watch the gauges when you are pulling a hill, and shift down when the pyro climbs or you will have a meltdown. And I am not talking about puking like some of you have talked about with the PSD.
here is a link to thier web site if anyone is interested. I have had one on my 99 Frieghtshaker for the last 700,000 miles and I haven't had any trouble with headgaskets or head studs like alot of folks do when they put a programmer on a PSD.

Enough about the class 8. I don't want to see it, hear about it till its time to go back to work.

The reason why 2 strokes were so cheap was there was so many of them made. The 2 stroke is like the 350 Chevy everybody had them.
For todays fuel costs a 2 stroke isn't economical. The war times used the old 2 strokes in boats etc. Did all kinds of goofy things like putting 6/71s back to back and calling them twin packs.
The noisiest of the 2 strokes gotta be the 53 series especially the 3/53 then the 4/53.
Probably the most common 2 stroke is the old straight 6 71 used in boats to trucks and heavy equipment.
The old Champion graders with 6/71 power you could hear scream miles away.

That reminds me, I have the chance to grab two 671s for $500. The owner just wnats to get rid of em, and doesn't know if they run, but he says they turn over with a breaker bar. Worth it?
The old KT Cummins are expensive to fix. I know one of the log haulers was looking at a off highway HDX with Cummins KT power he said to me they got lots of power but when they need rebuilding they cost 3 times more to repair than the same truck with 12v71 power which most old Hayes HDX were powered with.
It is pretty hard to beat the current engines for power and fuel economy.
The worst mechanical engine out there is gotta be the old 2 stroke detroit

how is a 2 stroke the worst mechanical enige? they sold over 3.5 million of them. they are in every country, fairly easy to work on if u know what ur doing. they r the longest running line of diesel engines ever produced, so notto many people would agree with u. ive heard of those things spinning a bearing and the driver not know till an oil change because it just kept on going. they are truely the most veristile engine ever built. hell at my school we have 2 on stands. a 6V92T and a 8V71. they both sat out side not covered up for about 5 years. it took me a few days of adjusting on the 6V92T and it fired right up within about 2 secounds and ran like a champ. the 8V71 had injectors missing we bought some new ones and a few days latter she was out running good as well. i havent run them in a few months and already miss the eerie detroit scream.
I disagree. The only thing they have going for them is their name. Cummins is miles ahead on the technology front.[/QUOTE
When you buy a cat its not just the name, its the dependability, parts avalability, and woldwide first to one service. I'm not knockin cummins, there top notch, but i dont think anything can touch cats service.

I have to agree, but i like the old 8V92 Silverliner series, these motors always run the best in non stop applications.

Have had it looked at by our cat house several times. Have not been able to diagnose the problem yet. The distric manager has even told me to " Drive it like I stole it and maybe it will get worse or blow up. It's under warrenty."
At 210,000 miles as of friday, the miss is still there and as annoying.
Not top notch service! But, this is just my opinion. I do prefere a Cummins red top over a cat.

cat is good but here in ohio since ohio cat was taken over by a different company i have heard that the trainging has dropped off for their techs. but ya their parts company is fast and reliable. im rebuilding a 3306 out of a dozzer and the parts guy is so knowelgable about most any cat motor its scary. most of the time that i have called for parts at other places you have to hold the parts guys hand throught the whole thing.

I currently own a 2004 Kodiak 6500 with a C7 cat. I only have 40K on it, and not real happy with the motor. It has been in the shop of 3 time in the past 2 months, and cost $4500.00 to repair faulty parts. I also have a 08 F250 with a 6.4 and 14K on it, and love it so far.
Just my 2 cents.
