BII hesitation

Hello all - my first post, and it's a long one...

Working on my Dad's rig - 87 2.9L

I'm experiencing an intermittent hesitation, a little like running out of gas or putting your hand over the intake. It generally happens during cruise, but at times it has happened during acceleration also. The hesitation continues for 1-2 minutes, or until I take my foot off of the accelerator. A light tip-in sometimes causes the hesitation to subside (sometimes). The condition returns within the next 10 miles or so - fairly common occurance.

At times, I hold the accelerator at a steady position, even when it is hesitating. After the 1-2 minute episode, the engine snaps out of it and gladly accelerates like new again. It's like a switch...

I have taken it to the dealer, but they were not able to duplicate the symptoms.

Any ideas?

Replaced:
Low pressure fuel pump
High pressure fuel pump
Fuel filter
Fuel pressure regulator
Plugs/wires

I should also mention that it starts great and has never stalled. The idle is very smooth.

moms jeep did the same thing, was a clogged injector

I would put a scanner on it to see if there are any codes that pop up to start with.
