302 gear drive, "quiet" or "noisy"
So, I am getting together parts for my 302 and I've always wanted to install a gear drive instead of a timing chain to get that "gear whine". However, being that I've never installed one, I need ya'lls opinion. When it comes to a "noisy" or "quiet" drive, can anyone accurately convey the difference? Is the noisy so loud that it'll give me a headache, or is it just audible? Can you even hear the quiet setup, or is it just quieter than the noisy drive? I basically want the supercharger whine sound, but without buying a supercharger. Any thoughts?

i have a 69 302 and I installed the "noisy" Pete Jackson gear drive in it...Its not all that noisy to where it drived you insane...dont get me wrong yes you can hear it..I really like it, it gives it that super charger sound....When you do install the gear drive you need to do some fabricating on the timing cover, its nothing to extreme you just have to grind a tab off of the cover, when I bought the Pete Jackson brand it came with instructions on grinding the tab...If you need more info just give me a shout.. I agree with not buying a knock off, i've tried all the ones I could find and prefer the milodon setup, its a little more expensive but i like the fact that I can set it up with the proper gear backlash, uses the fixed idler bolted to the block, not the floating idler like the pj, the level of noise is dependent on the cut of the gear tooth and the backlash of the gears, the tighter they are setup the quieter they are, on my setup I run .002 overall for race and .005 for street, the street setting is louder
