I would think that setting up a car for a plug and play remote starter would make that vehicle very susceptible for a thief to come up with a way to just plug something in and steal the car.

I'd like to ad a remote started but I thought I'd read somewhere, maybe owner's manual, that installing one could violate warranty or maybe the passive anti-theft system?

I know I read somewhere that you should have a Ford dealer install a remote starter due to starter interupt associated with the computer chip keys. I called three dealers- two said thay don't install remote starters and refered me to a stereo shop, the other dealer said they don't install them often and don't know how long it will take but is $65 an hour labor. I have a 2006 F150 screw XLT 4x4 with 19000 miles, still have truck warranty to worry about. Not sure what to do.

Adding an aftermarket remote start product will not violate the warranty.
Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, its federal law.

Adding aftermarket equipment will not void the warranty per se, but it will void the warranty of a particular system if that equipment causes that system to fail. An examlpe would be your A/C. If your A/C failed there would be no way that a remote start caused it to fail. But, if there was a problem with your ignition you'd probably have a fight on your hands. Go to reputable stereo shop and have the remote start installed, they will warranty their work. DEI products also carry a lifetime warranty on the equipment. I had mine installed while my truck was under warranty, and have never had a problem.
