I would get a lsd or selectable locker, A full locker on a short wheel based vehicle can be a hand full at times. I thought the bronco II's and 4x4 rangers had the 8.8 rear diff in the first generation of these rigs.

When did they go to the 8.8? I know may 96 and 04 ranger 4x4's had the 8.8, you would of thought that they would of put the 8.8 in all 4x4's, but I guess not.

It will have a 7.5 for sure. Unless you are offroading it I highly suggest away from a full locker. You can get into a boat load of trouble on a slick road with a short wheel base and a locked rear. A limited slip would be fine for street and occasional offroad. If you absolutely want a locker a suggestion if you don't want to drop $500 for a locker carrier plus installation would be what is called a "lunchbox" locker such as a lockrite. You can do it at home in little more than an hour. The locker unit replaced the spider gears, no resetting of the R&P required.
