Speaking of ugly, whats up with the new SuperDuty's tailpipe? Its a Y into 2 smaller tips with some funky looking vents in them. If I had one, that would get removed the first day. It looks rediculous.
I agree, it looks stupid, but isn't that part of the new BS emissions system? Removing that might drain the oceans.
If it were up to me, Ford would still be making an F-150 Heritage, with the 97-03 body style. They were gorgeous, and everything since that has been modeled after:
C'mon, ^^ thats fine for the laundry room because nobody has to look at it, but for the highways we need something pretty.
I think Ford should do what C***y tried (and failed to accomplish because their retro truck was as ugly as the original) and make a retro looking F-Series modeled after maybe the '48-50 bonus built trucks. Got to admit it would work perfectly into the whole new multi-bar chrome grille theme. Retro seems to be the hot selling trend (cite the Mustang for example), so it seems that that could be a way to go. Call it the F-200 or something. Make a HD version like a F-500 with a Diesel and Chrome stacks or hell, anything that has a dash of creativity in it.
Your tellling me that that ugly double exhaust tip is part of emissions. How is that possible? Either way, it looks like crap. I'd take it off and discard it.

respectfully and sorry but i thought those 71 chev's where the ugliest damn things ever concieved. they got no lines at all, look like they were designed on a drafting board w/a straight-edge and a compass to cut out the wheel wells. i think they're only popular cause the magazines keep showing mega-dollar examples of them untill everyone like's'm. then i was a flaming chevy hammerhead in the 80's i tried to make myself like them but i just couldn't. anyway all that aside, what gets me w/the new trucks, especially ford, is the side windows. i think they look ok from the hoodline down, but the windows make it feel like we're driving an overstuffed taurus. i miss the old windows that 'leaned ahead'. the superduty isn't bad, but the sporttrac etc is just a cheaply designed thing imho. i'm gonna miss the ranger, it's all we had left. as far as that new gm, i agree it's a ford/dodge wanna be, i like the tahoe's, but the pickups look so fake, they're trying to make'm look hi-by giving it a 5in bodylift and cutting the wheelwells damn near up to the hoodline. but it's still a low-frame gm fake. at least they got rid of those stupid low-mounted torsion bars. i haven't check'd'm out to see if they're still running that stupid cad or low-pinion 10bolt axles, but i don't really care cause i'm sick n tired of chevy b.s. i wished ford would work hard on a retro p/u or panelvan that's functional.

I believe it has to do with how hot the exhaust gets on the new diesels. It can approach 400*F with ease.
I recently ordered an '08 F150 because I don't like what they did to the grill and tail lights on the '09's. I'm sure it will grow on me in time as the new Super Duty has, but I will agree the grill needs to be body colored or covered with a good grill guard. The other reason I avoided the '09 F150 was the addition of the six speed trans. I think its a good idea in the big picture and I know it came from the Expedition but was told they reworked it for the truck. I'll let that transmission get a couple years on it before I consider it.

whats wrong with ford automatics? ive always had great luck with abusing my c6 auto trans..

Thats a C6, some ford transmissions aren't exactly the most reliable. Since over drive was added, alot of auto trannies have gone down in reliability.
Take a look at chrysler, they had one of the most stout and most durable transmissions off all time - the Torqueflight 727, in the early 90s, they added an over drive gear, and changed some stuff around, and that there began the chrysler transmission reliability woes.

The C6 is an awesome, bulletproof transmission, designed and built in a time when Ford knew how to make a quality transmission. Modern Ford transmissions are pretty poor. The '97 Explorer my buddy had went through three (yes, 3) transmissions (averaged 1 per 50K); 5R55e's or something behind a SOHC 4.0L. His dad's truck blew the trans out from under the 4.6L in his F-150 at like 80K. My dad's C4 in his '69 E-230, perfect. I think the reason most of these transmissions blow up is because they are electronically controlled. Everything has to have a computer in it nowadays, and while it might be fine for fuel injection and engine management, it just doesn't seem to work out with transmissions. That coupled with the new-age principle of making something just good enough so that it doesn't break under warranty to cut costs. I personally think it's smart to wait a year until they get the bugs worked out of a new transmission. No point being a test subject and going through customer service hell.
