Anyone install factory cruise control in their truck?

What would it take to install cruise in my '86 F250 XL? Does any of the wiring exist in the harness?

Not that I have found. If you can find a full setup (I actually have 1.8 sets of factory retrofit kits in the garage), the wiring is pretty much self supporting other than power and ground. The harness goes up the column and then to the control module (with a speed sensor installed on the backside of the speedo and a vacuum switch on the brake pedal). It is an easy install. I would be suprised if any of the wiring exists because both kits are Ford kits.

Good luck
Kenny

Some of the trucks had different horn wiring when they had cruise control. So you may have to add or modify the horn wiring and horn relay too.

Thanks for the info. Sounds doable if I can find the right donor truck...
I should have noted that my truck is a 4 speed, but I'm guessing it will just require a switch of some sort added to the clutch pedal?

I have a tilt column from a XLT truck that had cruise and as far as i can tell it uses the same column wiring/horn assy, I'll take a closer look at it.

I would like to do this with my truck. I had an aftermarket setup but it was short-lived.
Who has "been there/done that" with factory cruise conversion?
What do I need to grab off a donor?
My truck is also a 4 speed.

I just pulled it all out of a truck for my dads truck. You need the speedo cable from the donor truck it is two pieces with the speed sensor in the middle. You also need the electric box under the dash. I had to cut the wires going thru the firewall because the plugs would not come out the firewall hole. You will need the bracket for the accelerator and cruise cables. I have to cut a hole in the firewall of my dads truck to run the wires.

What about the buttons on the steering wheel? Or did they not have that on the 86-down trucks? That's where the horn wiring and the column wiring gets a little different.

I had already installed a tilt column with cruise in my dads truck. This stuff should now be a plug and play once I solder the wires back together.

Man I need to get back on this project, just drove 300 miles over the weekend and really could use cruise control and a ZF! 2500 RPM/10.6 MPG weighing 6250lbs.

Found a diesel donor. Will it work on a gas minus the vacuum pump?

As far as the horn buttons go, My Dad had a 1978 Ford Van that had factory cruise
control and the buttons looked just like some of the mid to late 1980s setups.

I had a 79 cougar that I scrapped, and I took the cruise off of it, and I bet it's the same also(besides the steering wheel). It had a short speedo cable piece that had a cast aluminum sensor made onto it, the black box under the dash, and the servo for the throttle.

I don't know if anyone realizes this, but the little black plastic sockets that hold the cluster bulbs in place can be found also in the late 70's Ford cars. When yours crack and crumble in pieces, these old cars are a good source for them.
