Straight Pipes?

I have a 2000 F150 and I am looking for a little more umph and a better sound. Right now I just have 1in 2out flowmaster(I don't even know the numbers on it) and the truck sounds like a little rice-burner import when I rev it up. I'm wondering about cutting off the entire exhaust system and running headers and true duels with no cat or muffler. However, I have read in previous posts that this will kill my bottom end. Is this true or not?
