Trade my wife's 2001 Windstar in on a New F150 S-Crew??

I also posted this on the truck buyer forum.....just trying to get a reply and some advice from all the knowledgeable Ford people here.

My wife drive's a 2001 Windstar LX, she like's it because it's quiet and smooth ride. But I'm concerned with all of what I have heard with the Head Gasket and Transmission failures.

I'm considering trading in her van and Buying her a 2002 F150 S-crew 2wd. I'd get killed on the negative equity, but I'v heard that the F150's are pretty reliable. I've had several older F150's and had no trouble.

Is this a stupid idea? Should I just keep the van or should I be worried about it's transmission and get a F150 for her??

Thanks for any advice.

I'd let her drive my truck, but she say's it's too big for her F250, CC, LB, 4x4, V10

Tony,
If she thinks your F 250 is too big, I don't think she is gonna like the SCrew. They're a pretty good size truck. I have a 02, 4.6, auto, 3:55's and love it. I get about 19-20 town driving so far. It has 5000 miles on it. But a small truck it ain't.

I was in a show room that had both
I think the back seats of the Supercrew have as much room as the 2nd row in the Windstar if that means anything to you

BTW
Test drive one that is the only way to find out

Tony, the Supercrew is a great truck, but the cost of a transmission or head gasket repair is peanuts compared to the beating you will take finacially on a trade in. If the windstar is still under warrenty, consider buying an extended warrenty if available. A test drive is in order before you buy a Supercrew. It ain't small!!!

Trade my wife's 2001 Windstar in on a New F150 S-Crew??

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-Mar-02 AT 02:25 AM (EST)]Just got back from the dealership, my $23,000 van that was such a great deal a few months ago is now worth less than half of that. I think that I will take the advice you all have given in this thread and keep the van for a couple of more years, see how it hold's up and then trade it in on a F150 S-Crew.

Bad thing is that I wanted to get one now, pay it off and pass it down to my teenage son. My eldest son is soon to be 14, 4 years worth of payments from now and I'd nearly have it paid off for his 18th birthday. I guess I can get him a used F150 later.

Thanks for the replies and keep on truckin

Tony

Trade my wife's 2001 Windstar in on a New F150 S-Crew??

We just sold our 1999 Windstar which my wife drove. Now she drives her F150SC 4x4. She's 5.2' and has not problem manuvering it around or pulling the horse trailer. The peddles adjust up or down for tall or vertically challenged folks. We sold the Windstar with only 36,000 miles on it (low mileage) due to concerns about breakdown. We were its 3rd owner, however, so maybe it was a lemmon. I would echo the comment to test drive, I rented one for two weeks and drove it hard - great rig. The seating is fine for adults and kids. Buy the bench up front so you can carry six (one less than the 'star). Adults in the back always exclaim how roomy it is. When the time is right, go for it!
