I had 235/75-15's (~29") on my '84 4x4 (basically the same body style I think?) and they occasionally rubbed but not very often. I don't think I could've went much larger than that though.

If I would've settled for the tires rubbing more often, I might've got away with 30-9.50's... I think the newer (rounder) body styles can do 31's pretty easily.

throw some explorer springs and coils on there and run your 31's!

On a 4x4 you can go 29", maybe squeeze on a 30', depending on the brand of tire.

I had 30's on my 84 and they rubbed on the plastic inner fender pretty bad, especially with a passenger in it.

2 inch suspension - 30 inch
4 inch suspension - 32 inch
5.5 inch suspen. - 33 inch

above will fit with proper tire clearance to the body.
of course you can stuff the wheelwells - that's up to you.

so with 2 up I would stick with 31x10.50s.
