Smile fuel filter--easy question

simple question, I could go out and probably look but ist f***ing freezing outside in NY I bought a new fuel filter and it did not come with any clips at all. I am guessing the clips are reuseable on the old one. My experience with inline fuel filters is the clips tend to break. Are these clips for a 5.4 inline fuel filter durable and just unclip easy or is there more to it?

thank all

You don't need any clips, you do need a special tool to remove the filter though, becuase the lines clip right onto the filter.

Yep, they switched from the crappy plastic removeable ones to clips being built in. I do like the old plastic ones because they are easier to get out though. I've never had the built in ones come off easy, it is always a fight but they go back together very easy.

Also remember to release the fuel pressure in the fuel line before you take the filter out.

Just did mine yesterday , got the tool at autozone a few years back , I pushed the fitting toward the filter while pushing the tool in to the fitting , came off very easy , mine had a hard plastic line on the end towards the back of the truck , be careful not to break one of those ! , after removing the lines ,the filter was pulled out of the clam shell type holder , this was on a 04 superduty yours may even have a hose clamp around the filter ? , make sure you release the fuel pressure from the system first by pressing in on the shrader valve on the fuel rail under the hood , put a rag around it first so you don't get sprayed ! , Craig.
