Fuel consumption

I just recently had a my 2002 Ford escape tuned up and had the spark plugs replaced with platinum plugs. About a month later I had one blow out of the head the required the head to be rethreaded. After it was repaired I noticed I was getting roughly 100 - 150km less milage from a tank of gas. Nothing changed about my driving style or conditions. Any ideas where I can start to trouble shoot this one?

wow that sucks. Hmm I would say maybe that the cylinder isnt firing (no spark), the plug blew out again, or the one of the valves in the head is bad.

Was the hole Heli-cored? you might not have a ground if it was.

Did you ever find out WHY it blew out? I would be pointing to perhaps a casting error or a crack in the head.

First make sure you get an accurate milage calculation, total volume of gas used in liters and total distance driven, the fuel level gauges cannot be relied upon for an accurate indication of fuel consumption. Also check that all emissions systems and sensors are connected and functioning properly, if the mechanics failed to reconnect a temp or O2 sensor, or damaged the connector for the same, or broke a vacuum line, milage will tank.
