A totally hypothetical question...well....maybe not!!
Well......I think I may have come to a conlusion.
I want to put a Cummins 6BT in my F-600. I was just going to use the 292 and T-98 and 2 speed axle and when the time came...swap it out for the Cummins.
I have found that I can probably use a Cummins 6BT with a 47RE/RH auto trans AND still be able to use a Super Duty tail mounted park brake since the bolt pattern is the same as an E4OD Etc.
With those problems solved for the most part I think it might be a good thing to just start looking for a Cummins now.
I have a 292 that has been completely rebuilt by a reputable local machine shop at great expense!. It has new everything internally, and has been balanced, and ported.
I also have a brand new set of (Mummerts) RAMS HORNS that have been ceramic coated by Performance coatings in Auburn WA. (I have over $600 in them!!)
I also have a new clutch, pressure plate, and a resurfaced flywheel......a ECZ 4 bbl manifold and 4160 Holley carb. The dist has Pertronix inside.
The oil pan is the P-350 big deep pan. I also have a rebuilt Harmonic damper from the Damper Dr. on it too.
All VERY COOL STUFF!!!
If I were going to sell this literally brand new engine (I haven't even started it yet!!!) with all the cool trimmings.....
What would it be worth? Would anyone want it?
Regards,
Rick

Well I have some pictures of the primed engine in my gallery.
I am still putting it together I guess. The long block is completely together. I have not put the intake manifold on yet. I'm not ready to put the engine in the truck.
I don't know if I would call it a performance rebuild. (it's for a truck!!) The performance things the machine shop did was balancing and porting. I don't know if I would call those performance things.

If I decide to sell it, I won't be splitting anything up.
It'll all go together. More and more I'm thinking I'll just bolt the damn thing in and run it!

As far as power units for a F 600 go's if you are not hauling "HEAVY" all the time the old reliable 292Y is hard to beat! Just for example I have a 59 F600 dump 292/5spd-2spd ,this old truck is just hard to beat, hauls a load with the best of them and when empty will get preety fair fuel mileage. The neighbor has a later model GM 60 series with a 350sm blk 5@2 . The old Ford will out haul the newer truck and get better fuel mileage. We were hauling fill for a housing project and I could run around him loaded on a uphill pull . Loaded I could get around 8+MPG Empty 14+ Not to bad for an old relic. Put the diesel in if your going to be loaded all the time. We used a Izuzu diesel in one of our mechanic's service trucks that worked out great .. JMHO it sounds like you have a great engine for this project and it would be a shame not to use it!! Y Blocks are hard to beat!!
Have A Good Day-- Hotwrench

I am waiting for my diesel-guru buddy to get back so we can finish the 56 f600/cummings swap. I also have a 56f600 with the 272 and 4 speed and it runs out good. I think the 292 will sell---price is ???? Bill
I would REALLY like to put a diesel in it! I have found a Detroit Diesel 6V-53T + 5 speed locally and although it would be noisy to some.......it would be music to my ears......(Although I wouldn't be able to hear anything else!!!)
The picture of my 292 is in my gallery. It's got a new/rebuilt starter, gen, Holley 4160, high mount water pump, new vib-damper, resurfaced flywheel/new clutch/pressure plate, plus the new (from Mummert) ceramic coated Rams horns. It would also include the bell+ a good T-98. I would probably have to have about $2500 for the whole mess just to get the money I have it in the rebuild/balancing/porting etc. (I actually have more in it...I guess......I hate when I do this!!!)
I would probably put the 6V53T in front of the E4OD I have(a seriously rebuilt one that is....) That thing would REALLY fill the engine compartment!!!
Brian,
Are you thinking about moving up here when you retire from USA ?
Maybe you're already retired........if so....congrats!! I was SO ready to retire after 24 years in the USAF!!!
