6.0 Mileage ?
#16
I have drove it( F-250 ) in the stock setting and I will only get 12 to 13 MPG, On the open road with it set at performance level, with the cruise set on 70, I will average 17 to 18. I had the triple dog on this truck at stock height and I could get 23 MPG. I have a F-550 and I have ordered one for it. I only get 11 MPG in it at this time.

Okay, I will bite, What is a "tripple dog"?
I believe a lot of the variances in fuel mileage are due to inconsistencies in production. I base this on having owned two of them, the first gave me upwards of 23 mpg on the highway @75. Its average was about 18 mpg empty. My new one, identical except for dual alternators, and one ton vs 3/4 ton, is happy if it sees 15 mpg @68 mph. It has a lot less power, yet ford says it is up to snuff in all catagories and has had lots of shop time to get it there. Both trucks are stock, driven by me exclusively, and I am getting older and more mellow as I age.

I'm reading that some guys are able to get 23 mpg at 75 mph. I'm no where even near that rating. In the May and June issue of DieselWorld they took a 2005 SD 6.0L and as a stock vehicle it got 17.4 mpg and they added components and got up to 24 mpg I would be happy with the 17.4 mpg the 24 mpg is a dream land for me.
I currently have a 2007 SD 6.0L Crew Cab and I have added an AFE Stage 2 Air Cleaner, a MagaFlow Muffler, and a HyperTech Power Programmer III (running at level 3). My current mpg average for the last 5,167 miles is 14.16 mpg, this is not from the lie-o-meter, this is from using the mileage at the start and at the end and tracking the total gallons from the 18 fillups. This includes towing my 4500 lb boat, a little around town, and freeway and highway driving. My tires inflated to 60 front and 70 back, drive w/ a light foot - minimize traffic light stops.
Does anybody have any advice for how I can increase my mpg?

No, people aren't lying. I have a 2004 superduty fx4 crew king ranch with 6.0 liter and torqshift. I also have an A.R.E. bed cover and 265/75/16 BFG's. I get 18.5 MPG all around up and down lots of hills as an average. When I get out on the interstate it can go up to 21 to 22,
I've always had good mileage. Even before I straight piped after the cat and had it tuned on a Dyna jet using a tripledog style remote.
Best torque numbers were at 690 ft lbs at the rear wheels.
Stock was around 350 at the rear wheels.

superchips and hypertech and quadzilla programmers are JUNK! please remove these novelty items at once. you need to dable in real programmers. such as: bully dog, edge, SCT!! these will get you better fuel mileage. take this advice and you will get the better mileage. also air intake and proper exhaust. dr. performance chips are good for fuel mileage, but dont use them for extra power. they will ruin your engine.

I have an '03 F350 SRW 6 speed manual that is bone stock and I've gotten as high as 19.5mpg's on the highway with the cruise set at 74-75mph. I will usually get closer to 18.5-19 though. And this is all hand calculated...I don't have the fancy computer that lies to me!
I'm sure that it also helps that I run purely highway and its on the totally flat interstate of I-10 between Mobile, AL and Gulfport, MS. No hills and sea level....

exactly!! There are so many variables that can make a huge difference. Where you drive (flat or hilly, hot vs. dammit cold, gears, tire size, type of tire (huge difference between the contenental highway tire and the Cooper SST), driving habits, modifications done on the truck, 2 wheel vs. 4 wheel drive. Not to mention the fact there are some out there that are OBVIOUSLY streching the true or just can do the math correctly. If it sounds to good to be true....it probably is. 23 MPG......maybe with the truck shut off. And if you look at where some of these outragously high MPG claims are coming from...... Think about it if you live where it gets cold, your truck will not get as good of fuel mileage. Due to warm up idle time and the fact that your engine will not run efficiently till its warmed up.

2wd vs 4wd; lifted vs not; tire size; etc certainly make a noticeable difference.
To be believable, all numbers reported should be hand calculated. The electronic reading is just NOT that accurate.
A big factor that people do not report in their numbers is wind! I have gotten 19.5 two times and over 20 once. All three have been on the highway with a 15+ mile per hour wind behind me. 18.5 is a better highway number for me on the highway with no wind, no towing, 65 mph, etc.
Also, some pumps are just not set to stop at the same point. This can skew the results also. I always look at the mpg before and after a hand calculation to make sure a very high number is not followed up by a very low number. If so, the tank may not have been filled up consistantly.
When folks just can't get decent mileage, I wonder how big a part a bad (or poorly calibrated) sensor might play?
Does anyone know which sensors would play the biggest role in mpg performance? It may "pay out' to replace a sensor or two for 2-3 mpg??
Maybe this is just too much of a long shot with the fact that it could be injectors, ring and valve blow-by etc.
