a dmf has springs in the flywheel instead if the clutch disk. The springs can come out or the flywheel it'self can come apart. This can destroy your tranny (bellhousing). Get a smf and be done with it. I like my luk clutch.
The dual mass flywheel is OEM and when it wears out you get a rattle/clunk. It is because the dual flywheel has two sections, one is bolted to the crankshaft while the other is seperated by ball bearings and springs to allow the second half to rotate and reduce vibrations from the engine. When the springs wear out or break, you get a noise on shutdown as the flywheel rocks. The DMFW is often replaced with a single mass flywheel because the SMFW clutch kit is cheaper than a DMFW by itself.
