33 4X4 is starting off with a positive reputation.
transmission swap

I have a 33 ford pu with a 70 Bronco 3 speed manual 4x4 setup. Engine is a 302 and the transfer case is a Dana model 20. I want to go to a automatic and keep the 4x4 drive line. What automatic transmission is the best choice? A 4th gear or overdrive would be nice... An alternative is a 4 or 5 speed manual transmission....Thanks for helping....Jim...jwturbett@msn.com

Automatic, AOD of the proper (later years, V8 models) vintage, with maybe a beef up and the proper linkage...a big deal on this trans. Note lower 1st and 2nd can be had.

Or C4 if you want to pass on OD.

Manual would be Mazda or ZF models, although you need a juice clutch for both. T5 would be maybe but 1st is too high. Ford 4 speed OD would be like your 3 gear with OD, and floor shifter.
