Man you've come to the right place. There are a lot of people on here with a wealth of knowledge, reference information, opinions and the odd time a good kick in the pants.....just for good measure.

As far as engines go...it was previously asked....what do you intend to do with the truck? By the sounds of things you want a peppy cruiser with occasional long haul capability for longer trips.

I would tend to agree that slightly hopped up 351W will provide you with more than enough power to roast off a set of tires at the lights, pass in traffic like a bat outta hell and even bang your passengers head off the back of the cab on a good launch...These trucks are light and with suspension upgrades and lowering that will add to the agility. A heavy over powered front end works best on the drag strips...not so much on the streets...

Just my 2 bits..besides what do I know....it's pretty dark over here.

The first thing that you do is get a price on that 390 and if it is a factory fresh GT motor you buy that sucker!!! It really doesn't matter if you put it in your truck or not. If it is a factory GT motor with 0 miles on it you could sell it for mucho coin. The GT heads alone are highly sought after for Mustangs and Fairlanes.

well I've worked out a deal for the 351w with a 5 speed out of a 84 mustang(I think a T-5) and it won't cost me a dime, just in trade. Still waiting on the price for the 390fe, I did a little research on it and I if it's a good deal I might use it or list it on ebay to help finance the build. It is a GT and was donated in 67-69 to the school and has 335hp, the teacher retired and took her home and has been hidden ever sense. Only started on the rack, less then 100 hours, only for the break in. Any ideas on what I should offer not to insult the guy if he can't come up with a price??????

dont offer a CASH price...spend some time talkin and LISTENING to the old guy..you'll learn a coupla things....figure something that you could offer him in a horse trade, then give him the cash equivalent of that something

free 351W+5speed...........thats about the correct price!

now figure out how to put it in as cheaply as possible, then DRIVE THE **** OUTTA IT

cubic inches

I just completed a 429 cid drop in my f1 and placed a C6 trans behind it.
It seems like a pretty good fit and since the 429 and 460 are the same block, seems to me that would be my choice.

Great advice OZ52F1, I will do that for sure. I might even bring my wife as she is young and good looking. Wow that sounds bad (bringing wife for distraction not trade LOL).

Retro48/52 what frontend are you running with that motor tranny setup?
