What your forgetting also is diesel drops under regular in the summer typically when the tycoons aren't raping us poor. In addition most people who buy diesel powered trucks use them for heavy towing, which thanks to the wonderful wind machine firing air into the air cooler, Aides tremendoussly in decent fuel economy while towing. when you'll pull a hill with ten thousand pounds in a diesel you'll end up using less fuel then a gas job that will have to work harder using more fuel.Do to bigger power and having the turbo also lessens the work output the motor sees during heavy labor and won't shorten engine wear by always running at 4,500 r's to climb a hill. Therefore if you have two indenticle trucks, (one gas and the other diesel) the diesel will be cheaper in the end when used in truck format as it was intended.

diesels do make good power and tq. but you still have a long way to go to make up the difference. I use my 5.4l to pull all of the time, I get 10-12 pulling a 20ft race trailer. our diesel mech sold his diesel for a v10. he said his opperating cost is cheaper than the diesel pulling his 34 5th wheel. you can forget all of the extra maintence of a diesel.

Rollerstud98 summed it up for some of us. Even if it doesn't make financial sense, SOME PEOPLE JUST LOVE THE SOUNDS & SMELLS OF A DIESEL. When I'm rolling up a hill in OD with 12 or 15K tagging along, I don't regret it for a second. And my 7.3 gets about the same mileage as my 91 F-150 with a 5.0 5 speed used to get.

I would advise all to read and do a little checking on diesel emission standards and how the new diesels run. Also, check on ALL of the maintenance involved in a new diesel. There is much more than there used to be because of all the new gov. standards. Exhaust systems are much different than they used to be for a diesel as well as the engine emission systems. They are as bad as a gas motor anymore it seems.

Not on my side of the Bridge (Pa)...for years and years now summer/winter Diesel has been much higher than regular grade gas. When I do travel to NJ then I take my F250 7.3 Diesel and fill up. But for the most part regular grage gas has been the less $$$ fuel.
Personally...I'm more than ready for a gas burning new Super Crew Lariat 4x4 6.50 Bed Truck

I sure hope that ford is just messing with us and saying 2010 for the diesel otherwise people are going to take a serious look at dodge. I do not have the link but google 2009 dodge trucks and you will find it.
Yep...the 09 dodge is a sharp lookin Truck!

since the new emission standards on the diesel it is really not worth getting it unless you are going to actually NEED it for towing or hauling.

I own a 7.3 ain't know way in hell it's getting 20-25 in town...those numbers (may) be hwy (only) and would be in the high teens to very low 20's (not towing)!

My truck is far from a new diesel, 94 F-250 4x4 with the old IDI 7.3, 370,000 miles and get 21mpg city or highway empty , it really doesn't seem to matter much. it does get a little less with the winter mix and with the new fuel , ultra low , I put fuel additives in. but I'm still getting 20 most tanks. When I got the truck fuel was about 50 cents less a gal. than reg. But now, holy crap, I'm glad the company I work for pays for most of my fuel. I only use this now for my work ,it was my daily driver, but now it's cheaper to drive my 2000 Expedition xlt 4.6 . I would say if you where going to get one and keep it for the next 20 yrs go for it, but if your a guy that needs to trade every yr or 2 to keep up with the jones go for the gas jobs

I can see it a little more with a Cummins. We had a work truck that was a 99 with an Edge Juicebox, and it would get around 20 on the highway. Mind you, this was with 4.10 rearend, but the 35 inch tires helped bring the RPM's down a bit.

I've also heard of the old IDI's getting pretty decent mileage. Gearing, and driving style helps a TON with these figures. But 25 in town with a newer 7.3... thats unlikely.

ok? did it feel good when they were blowin it to? anyone who tells you their 3/4 ton or one ton is getting 25 mpg in town. call there bs. please. the only way a 3/4 diesel is goin to get 25 in town is: lower it to the ground, take out the ac, seats, and aything else that has good weight. make it very very aerodinamic. big big chip, air intakes. very small tires. in other words the ugliest lookin truck. stop believin these people.

lol, it wold look like somthing out of a cheech and chong movie wouldnt it??

i am just saying what i have heard, it seems some are gett 20mpg though, which is still not bad at all for a big ass truck. but i am hearing ALOT of people say how much they dont like the mpg they are getting on the new 6.4L, which is cause of the emissions stuff they put on it.
