the problem is going to be the emissions stuff. its going to kill it like it did gas engins. its like the government wants us to nit drive at all. the want fuel economy but then want emissions also and its hard to get both.

Ford stopped making the C6 in 1989 when the E4OD was introduced. The E4OD was renamed to the 4R100 in the late 90's. The 4R70W replaced the AOD.

my 2000 F250 i had had a 4R70W in it. i remember it very well cause it had a tag right on the trans that said it. can you explain that?? i even asked my grandfather and he said that the E40D was replaced by 4R70W. isnt the 4R100 what they use now?? i think it was the AOD that replaced the C6 or they were selling the AOD along side the E40D cause i remember looking at trucks with him and making sure it did not say AOD, and that it said electronic 4-speed over drive. i will ask him again to make sure but i think thats what he said.

They did put the 4R70W behind some 5.4's, but the 4R100 which is a renamed E4OD is what they put behind the 5.4, 6.8, and the 7.3 until 2003, which is when they released the Torqshift 5 speed automatic behind the new 6.0. The Torqshift is a 5R110.

They usually put the 4R100's in the 250's and 350's with the highest payload packages and such. Even a lot of the Expeditions got the 4R100's.

The AOD was released in the early-mid 80's and was commonly mated to the 302. The AOD later became the AOD-E, and then renamed the 4R70W. The E4OD was released in 1989 and replaced the C6.

As far as the 4R70W goes, our E250 work van have them, and I've seen them behind many 5.4 equipped F-150's. Was your F-250 4 wheel drive? I personally haven't seen them in an F-250 with a 5.4 that is 4 wheel drive, mainly because they are not as strong as the 4R100. So that's my explination for that!

I found out today that they did still make the C6, but it had to be special ordered through Ford. That, or swapping it out to a C6, was the only way you could get one. The PSD however didn't have that option any longer.

I just read an article about the 2009 yes 2009 dodge ram 1500 that stated that dodge does have the cummins diesel in it. Please tell me that ford will have theirs in 2009. Cummins v8 for 1/2 ton 300 hp 460 trq 20 mpg city and 25 mpg hwy. Those sound darn good for 1/2 ton. They also have a pic of the 2009. I sure hope that ford is just messing with us and saying 2010 for the diesel otherwise people are going to take a serious look at dodge. I do not have the link but google 2009 dodge trucks and you will find it.

They USED to not be able to build a tranny to stay behind it. From what I've heard and seen personally, the tranny's in them now are holding up well compared to other years. I don't know what they'll put behind the new Cummins, but I'm almost sure Chrysler has got the transmissions figured out.

I find that EXTREMELY hard to believe. Either he is running injectors and Crazy Larry or some other high performance upgrade. There's no possible way he's been through 3 in the past 7 months. I want to meet this guy and see paperwork on that, anything to make me quit laughing.

the thing that i don't get about diesel. they cost like 5k more to buy, and yes they do get better mileage than gas. i put 20,000 miles on my truck in one year. gas now is 2.85 and diesel is 3.49. at todays prices and a 5k mark-up it would take 15 years to pay off the difference in mileage alone. take into acount the extra diesel maintenance and you lose money( fuel filters, glow plugs, extra oil, higher shop rates, dpf filter)
