Unofficial Fte Cookbook Thread

1finebroncobabe ran something similar back in June 2006 when she was asking for recipes for entertaining....and BillW just ran a thread a few days ago for turkey leftover recipes, and that kind of jogged my memory a little for this current little gem of inspiration...

What do y'all think of a online cookbook? With some 400,000 members, and based on some of the recipes I've already seen in past threads, I do believe that we could come up with a good little thread here.

This will be run a little different in that I'll start with one style of cooking....We'll run with that for a bit (depending on how many members decide to 'input'), then I'll change it to another style of cooking. I'll start with my own (easy) recipe.

Ground Rules:

1. Stay within the 'style' in the thread (i.e. casseroles, or vegetable side dishes, or desserts, etc.).

2. Only post 1 recipe at a time. If you happen to post more than 1 recipe within a 'style', that's perfectly fine.....But only 1 per post.

3. Homemade or 'improved' recipes are fine. Recipes you got out of a cookbook are also fine, HOWEVER....Make sure that it is one that you've actually tried....not just one you pulled out of a cookbook.

4. If this thing becomes legend, and Ken decides to print it out and publish it as something like the "What Ford Lovers Eat" New & Improved cookbook....I wanna piece of the action.....

j/k on the last.

The first style is:

CROCKPOT COOKING

The first one here is so easy, a caveman could do it. As a matter of fact, the cavemen GAVE me this idea.

Indoor BBQ

Ingredients:

1 6lb to 9lb boston butt
Lawry's seasoning salt

-Coat the entire boston but (hand rub) in lawry's seasoning salt.
-Put the butt in a large crock pot, cover. DO NOT ADD ANY JUICE! (you don't need it).
-Put the selector to 'low'. Cook for 14 hrs.

That's it! Nothing more, nothing less, although you can variate your own seasonings. This is an amazingly juicy, tender, tasty way to cook a boston butt, and the taste is similar to smoking it at a pig picking. The meat literally falls off of the bone, and you'll end up with a couple of inches of juice in the crock pot. Need I give any ideas for usage? Get some buns, your favorite BBQ sauce, and you've got instant BBQ sandwiches. Get some tortillas and your favority skillet seasoning, and you've got the base for burritos or enchiladas......It's good in omelets too.

That's it. Next person please!.....

Remember....We're only doing crockpot cooking right now.....

Steve

This is my favorite crock pot recipe

4-5 lbs of pork ribs (your choice)
Two or three bottles of your favorite BBQ sauce

Put ribs in crock pot, pour in the bottles of BBQ sauce (however much it takes to submerge the ribs, mine takes two large bottles or three average size bottles). Set at 210 degrees and cook for 7-8 hours.

mm-mmm-mmmmm.

Only thing I wish I could change about it is the fact that the BBQ sauce gets all runny and watery after cooking that long. Ah well.

On Topic Post

about 5 years ago I posted my Stuffing recipe.

I would like to repost it for those people who would like to try something different that is Very Very Good.

This really is the Best Stuffing I have ever made.

I hope you take the time to make it.

It is best NOT placed in the Turkey though, I really don't care for the grease of the Turkey mixed in with this.

Bake It in a Pan Next to the Turkey Instead

Ingredients:
3/4 lb-sausage meat
5-celery stalks(chopped small)
3-onions(chopped)
2 -apples(peeled&chopped)
1-sweet red pepper(chopped)
2-cloves garlic(minced)
1tbsp-dried sage
2-tsp each thyme / oregano
16-cups multi-grain breadcrumbs
1/2 cup toasted walnuts
1/2 cup raisins
1 cup apple sauce

Directions:
Cook sausage over med.heat (5 min) until browned.
drain off fat>>Add celery,onions,apples,red pepper,
garlic,sage,oregano,thyme;
Cook over med.heat, stirring often for 10 min. or until
vegetables are tender,>.Place bread,walnuts,raisin's
in a large bowl ; Add sausage mixture and applesauce , tossing to mix
Bake in tinfoil beside turkey for about 25 min.

Number Of Servings:about 20-24

Preparation Time 90 minutes

I usually cook this on the stove, but the crockpot works fine, too:
Bachelor Pot Roast
Brown a large chunk of roast
Add 4-5 plops of ketchup
Add a beer or two
Add carrots, onions, potatoes, celery, whatever ya like
Simmer for a few hours- even better the next day!

Great stuffing, Mil1ion....Not quite in the crockpot milieu, but we'll revisit it when we get to side dishes.......

The beans DO sound good.

Except for the ketchup, not too different from a yankee pot roast. It DOES tend to add some 'savoriness' (is that a word?) to meat.....Good idea.
