Swap 3.0 for 3.8 Problems?

I recently bought a 35 Mercedes 540K Kit car. It was bought in 1988, and has never been unpacked. The original purchaser died a few months ago. He paid a lot of extra to have the frame and other parts set up to accept a "Ford V6", motor mounts and transmission mounts.
My problem is, I have not kept up with the Ford V6 over the years. I am assuming that it is set up for a 3.8 and automatic from what was around back then, but I really want to modernize as much as possible, am looking for a late model engine/transmission unit I can pull from a more modern rear wheel drive vehicle.
My question is, are the 3.0 mounts the same as a 3.8? Would a 3.0 drop right in on the mounts? What is a good late model V6 vehicle that would yield me a good engine/tranny unit for this application? Any guidance appreciated. I don't want to change all the mounts.

OK, I got a bit smarter today. The V6 this car was engineered for was a 2.8 V6, because they are a 60 degree V, I think the 3.8 is a 90 degree angle.
I then have a question, since the 2.8 grew many variations up to a 4.0, are all the 60 degree V6 Fords using the same motor mount system?
It seems Ranger pickups used the 60 degree engines with rear wheel drive automatics mostly.

Interchange between 60 degree V6 engines

I have found that in the 60 degree v6 Ford engines, they range from small to large, apparently the same block.
If one had a 2.8 engined vehicle, and wanted to modernize with another 60 degree engine, which ones would bold in as a direct replacement (disregard the fuel injection and other minor modifications, I am talking only motor mounts here)

I know the 3.0 and 4.0 share the same block...

I would look into the bronco II/Ranger swap forums, as these were all put into those trucks. I'm sure that a 2.8 is not a 2.9 (efi), not even close, and the 4.0 bolts into a bronco II where the 2.9 was. Now if the 2.8 shares the same motor mount location as a 2.3 I4, I'd be looking for a 2.3T from an 80's turbo-coupe. My 2 cents. Anyhow, I'd snoop around in those forums....they probably know more.
