How much fender can I trim?

I have a 2003 F250 Diesel. I want to fit bigger tires, (33" already on, fit fine with no lift). Lifting will give me more clearence to fit bigger tires, but will also raise the center of gravity. Fender trimming will give me more clearence to fit bigger tires, but won't raise the center of gravity as much. I've had 2 jeeps that have had the fenders trimmed to fit bigger tires, it seems to work great.

SO, how much can I trim my Ford's fenders? How much bigger tires could I go to with JUST a fender trimming?

Thanks!

How much lift do you think it takes to make a fullsize dangerous? You change the COG, and gain break over angle. That is not a bad thing. A few inches is not going to make a terrible difference. Matter of fact, approach, and departure angles will even improve, as will suspension travel. If you are running a stock spring now, you are limited to a few inches of compression, that is something that a sawz-all can't fix.

My buddy had a '01 F250 with a 6" suspension lift and 44s that was the absolute best looking SD Ive ever seen. This guy trimmed an awful lot but used bushwacker pocket flares so it was hard to tell. He copied the idea from a guy who had his truck in "Fourwheeler" magazine who did the same thing. You might be able to search Fourwheelers website for pics because my buddy has already sold the truck. By comparison it usually takes 12"+ to get 44s on a 99-04 SD. Trimming isnt a bad thing.

Depending on how much you like fenders, you can fit some really big tires, and like STG said, some bushwacker flaires would clean up the looks, but if that isn't enough for the tires you want.....

Just put a body lift!

YOU sir are my new hero

it is SOOOO refreshing to hear someone ask a tire fitment question with no lift!

you'd be surprised how little you really need to trim. i have seen guys running around here with 35's on a truck identical to yours. like i tell most people... buy the tires you want first and then do what it takes to get them to fit. trim a few inches and add a leveling kit or something minimal.

just my .02
