Went to Columbus, found a DEAL on my way home!

Ok, 4speed, my brother, and myself went to columbus for the swapmeet. I bought nothing, my bro bought nothing, 4speed bought some NOS 60 parking light assemblys and some 1959-1960 service bulletins.

On the way home 4speed knew of a 59 f350 for parts, so he calls the guy and its only 10 miles out of our way.

We get to the guys house and there is a 56 F600 sitting in the field (so I started to get excited!). We start walking to the 59 f350 and on the other side of the guys house is ANOTHER 56 F600> Custom cab, windshield washers chrome grill, so I ask the guy do you sell any 56 stuff? He says, No we still use both of them on the farm. After we look at the 59 we walk over to the second 56 , the guy pops the hood and the y block is still just like it should be.

I forgot to tell one thing in the story above. The custom cab truck has a original HOOD BIRD on the hood! So I say to the guy there is something I want off this truck that wont affect the way it runs or drives. He gives me a look like I'm nuts. I ask if he would sell the hood bird, Long story short I grabbed a wrench , both bolts came out. I paid for it but in reality I STOLE IT!

We laughed all the way home,

Kevin Bigwin

It's amazing how many of those old trucks are still out there and untouched. Well, until you took the hood bird of course LOL... Good find and a great story. I'm impressed the guy is still using the trucks daily. BUILT FORD TOUGH?

I said before---I found more 56s in Ohio than I do in Florida.....I also think that the only way you find stuff is to scout the back roads and see what is there. I never heard from you(bigwin) about the panel truck seats--so I let them bid up......Bill

It's been a long time since I've "gotten the bird" and was happy about it.

Stole it = $30.00 (not even enough for a tank of gas!)

I have panel seats plus those were too pricy for me!

Abe---I tried to talk Bigwin to buy them --but he wasn't interested. They were nice--I bid,but need other stuff 1st.
Just bought a 1960 292 with 4 speed for 150.00 runs and from another FTEr in Alabama. It will save me alot of money....plus a 56 cab and doors/55 cab and doors/and all inside stuff/ 56 F100 doghouse/ --a load !! So the money for the seats bought me all that!!!! the panel seats are RARE---and I have 1---but no panel truck----yet!!!! hmmmmm------Bill Abe--did you buy them?

I looked right at the truck and never noticed the bird, it wasn't till I heard kevin say he wanted to buy something, I wandered off and when I got back to the f-600 he pulls the hood down and I spot it! Couldn't believe he had gotten that lucky. The 59's were to rough to even consider it was a 6cyl to boot. Its hard to believe some farmer dollied up his 56 f-600 with washers and a hood bird! You just had to be there.... -4speed

Walford, let me know if you want to get rid of any '60 parts...

Hey, good idea. Buy a pair of good panel truck seats ane then build a panel truck around them!

No, that kind of money would pay for a total restoration of my original bench seat, foam padding and original style woven vinyl seat and back material. Or that would be half the cost of a new bed....

Or a pretty good F-600 sold on ebay...
