Help with rear brakes

Would some one post some pictures of the layout and routing of rear brake lines and parking brake cables? The daigram in the manual isn't detailed enough. Starting from the rear wheel cylinders to the master cylinder woud be good. Where do the two bent metal brackets bolt on? I bought my 54 F100 from a guy who had had started the rebuild so I didn't get a look at it before. Thanks for the help.

Maybe you already know but, if you are going to do any flaring of your brake lines, be sure and double flare them or they are guaranteed to leak/suck air.

Thanks guys. Steve, the pictures helped alot for the hydraulic line and bracket. I'm all set with that. The ebrake is still a mystery though. A new rear cable assembly from Sacramento Vintage Ford came with the truck. It says 53-60. It is a one piece cable with ends to go into each rear drum. Presumably the center is pulled by the second (front) cable that originates in the cab at the lever. However, the center section of the cable does not have the hard, bent radius piece with the hole for the front cable to attach (see 2A635) on Bob's attached illustration. Any ideas??
Thanks again.

That piece-looking upside down in the diagram-is actually a bent piece of channel where the cable lays in and the thru-bolt holds it in place. It was that way on my 53'. Its not a permanently affixed part of the cable itself.

Bob,

The curved piece looks like a common item that was used on many different vehicles. The first place to go is a good parts house like NAPA or other store that deals with profesional garages. I would think they would have something that is very close, if not the exact part. Check the phone book and see if there is a business in your area that deals specifically in brakes, they usually have a whole parts selection that most likely will have your part. Call Sacramento Vintage Ford and ask if they know where to get the part, they may even have them in stock.

Sounds good. I'll make some calls. I need the front cable anyway, so I will look for it at same time. I thought the curved piece was crimped around the rear cable. Glad you guys are here. Thanks.

Bob,
I took a look at my parts truck (Fred) and you are correct, it is crimped at the ends of the U to hold the wire, but the wire itself is not crimped. It would be relatively easy to uncrimp, remove and re-crimp over your existing (or new) cables. Let me know if you can't find one local.

Apparently there were two different rear cable assemblies made for these trucks. One like the new one I have and described above, and another type with brackets 2530 and 2531 as shown on Bob's diagram. The old one with the brackets also came unmounted with the truck. Its shot but it has the curved piece on it and your right, I can salvage it , clean it up and use it on my new cable. Having both types of cables confused me for a while but I got it now! Thanks again for the help.
