Once upon a time the only folks who bought pickup trucks were workmen and real sportsmen. Back then pickups were practical, hard working machines, with a lot of guts. Popularity killed the pickup truck! No longer are thy made for the select few, now they are made for them asses (oops, I got the "m" in the wrong place, I meant "the masses")!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-Dec-01 AT 12:42 PM (EST)]I'm pretty dissapointed about that. My F150 is the first 4.9 that I have owned and I absolutly love it. If they made the fronts of the newer F150s the same as the 250s and 350s then maybe it would still fit. I have thought of writing a letter to ford about bringing it back, but I don't think it would help.

Oh yeah, I don't think the curving hood on the late 90s F150 is the only problem (and yes a superduty type hood on the F150 would make it look a lot better--that and a more aggressive grille), but I suspect also that the engine bay is too short for the straight six.
And Pitt Electric had the 300 up until at least sometime last year.

I saw the term bent applied to V engines on the Clifford Performance bulletin board. But the other day I saw a reference that indicated way back before there were many V engines, the days of straight eights, where they would refer to a V-8 as a bent 8. I don't know if it was meant to be disparaging or not back then, but thats how I use it! But don't get me wrong, I really think V-8's are great. It's just that I also think inline sixes are greater!
I bet Chrysler has or soon will abandon their inline six from the Cherokee and go with a bent six. Some foreign sports cars have inline sixes and the new GM inline six, but I wouldn't trade a Ford inline six for any of them.

183 cid bent six Aerostar (wife's)

Wow! I'm new here and also new to messing around with my truck. I bought my 1994 F-150 4.9 six in 1997. It has run great and strong so I didn't notice what I had. I bought the 4.9 for better gas mileage. Also heard that it runs forever. Now reading your stories I see I made the right chose. Ohhh yeah!!! I definitely got more than I ever knew.

Congratulations! I just love driving my '95 300 I6, expecially since I opened up the exhaust for that "truck sound." Remember, "Time spent driving a Ford truck is not deducted from ones lifespan."
