Immersion heater

I was just wondering how this immersion heater works and at what temp I should start plugging it in at?

Are you talking about the engine block heater or an add on unit? We usually plug it in once it starts to go below 32*F on a regular basis. Place the cord on a timer and save some $$. Just make sure it is a heavy duty timer that can do about 15 amps. (engine block heater is about 1K watts.)

if you mean block heater..i never plug mine in till its 0 or below..this is running delo 15/40 oil.. at that point i dont plug it in till 1 1/2 to 2 hours before i need to start her up... each truck is differnt..some will romp for a bit at first..mine does not..

Immersion Heater

I don't know if it is a block heater and it is from the factory. It is located by the oil filter. It has been down to 26 or so and I haven't had any problems yet!

yes that is the block heater..i do not use mine till it gets down to 0..at that point.. i only plug it in 2 hours before i need to start her up...

If it's your Daily Driver, then you might consider using a timer when you reach low temps like Ron describes.
