I'm obviously jealous of you guys that have these new F350s but am curious as to what size tranny cooler they have? Any pics would be great if you can. Maybe one day I'll be able to afford a new F350 but not now. I looked at one on then dealer lot the other day and sticker was $56,000.00 GEEEEEZ!!!!

cooler size

The trans cooler is smaller in size than the on in the 6.0 (alot smaller)
don't know if it is better

I know of some low preesure drop cooler in the after market that work better than that big monster cooler in the 6.0 so I don't know if bigger is better

During the summer, I have to tow my 10,600 pound 5th wheel trailer with my 6.4L PSD up a 1300 foot mountain to reach my home. This climb is done in 2 miles. The tranny temperature never moves from mid band on the instrument gauge during the tow.

My old 99 7.3 PSD tranny temp rose from 150 to 230 degrees and boiled over each time I did this same tow.

My feelings are that the 6.4 L tranny cooler is well designed and works well towing with my 5th wheel in summer temperatures. Doesn't matter the size of the cooler but how efficient it is.

I believe the factory trany temp gauge is not an actual gauge. It only reads cold, normal, hot. Kinda like a warning light. Get an after market gauge if you want to monitor trans temps.

Strange, mine sure looks like a gauge and it seems to work like one as well. Could just be me but I think it is a real gauge on the 08 that is.

One question then, do you have an oil pressure gauge?

If you do, it ain't real buster! It's not even a gauge, really. You will never see high or low only middle or nothing. On the 6.0L it goes to mid point with only 5-7 psi and stays there till it drops. It is sent a signal by an 'oil temp switch', not a sending unit. I am sure that the 6.4L is the same, though I could be wrong.

There have been posts about the tranny gauge before, I think, or am sure anyway. It will stay in the middle until you hit a set point at which time it will finally climb up to the yellow and beyond. Not much of a gauge. Get your own.

BTW, you can see results of a test that confirmed this by the Dieselman on his website.

No oil pressure guage which seams a little funny. I wish it did.
