The F150 isn't in any holes- it's still the #1 selling vehicle in the US (maybe even North America). Thus, drastic changes are a risk whereas "tweaks" are a safer bet.
I do agree with cc332 and others. Ford needs the new gas engines at vehicle launch. Simply bumping (beyond reserve HP?) the tired old 5.4L won't cut it with anyone except the die-hard blue oval blinder-wearing crowd. And even then I have my doubts. Who here would run out and buy a new '09 knowing that 6 months after launch you can get the latest & greatest hurricane/boss/whatever engine that puts the 5.4 to shame?
To be clear, I'm only talking gas engines. I doubt any of the manufacturers come out with half-ton diesels until '10 or '11 when the new Federal mandates take effect.
some people are going to run out and do the because they my not need any bigger motor than the 5.4 for what they do. believe it or not alot of people will not "over do" something above what they might need. plus the added cost of the new motor, cost of upgrade and then the fuel cost, why pay more if you really dont need more.

Suicide? I guess I just don't understand all the hype about "hp wars". I know that this matters to some people. But how much hp do you need to propel a 5000 vehicle at 70mph? I would much prefer good torque, fuel economy, dependability, and roadability over horsepower. Besides, you can get all the horsepower you can afford in the aftermarket . . .

newsflash, these trucks weigh about 6000 lbs in crewcab, not 5000. ford's trucks have been the heaviest trucks on the market for a while now. it's how they get away with the biggest tow rating and the biggest payloads even though they're last on HP.

For people who use their trucks HP means nothing, Its all about torque and the F-150 has plenty, if they do use the 5.4 at launch, it is supposed to have 385 lb. Whats even better is that on the Ford it is low end, that means when you have a load the power is still accessable.

i fully agree... The dynos of the new tundras i've seen, where the torque peaks at 4900 rpm, makes me chuckle...
I hope ford breaks 400tq out of the 5.4 and maintains the low end grunt these motors have... and have it be a simple headswap like it was on the PI/Non-PI mod motors

this truck they have now i way more advanced than anyone elses. there are no other companies that put the shocks on the outside of the frame, only one other company has a fully boxed frame now, no one else has a truck as quiet on the inside. the ford my be under powered compared to other companies but it has the best payload and towing than any other truck and thats only going to improve with the next truck. ford trucks can also handle a trailer better than the rest of the companies. all in a nut shell the F150 can almost be compared to other companies 3/4 ton trucks.
You can say that again!!!
They haven't been #1 for 31 years for nothing.

F150 & Titan both have fully boxed frames. Both introduced in 2004.
The only F150 that has the highest tow rating is the Regular Cab.
The rating was increased to 11,000 lbs. in 2008.
How I dunno, since it's the same exact truck as a 2007.
Could it be that Ford raised the rating to outdo the 2007 Tundra's tow rating?
Would you care to cite the source(s) of the information where you read that says the F150 can handle a trailer better than anyone and has a quieter cabin?
I read everything I can find about all the current models and never saw any reference to those two points.

the truck can tow a helluva lot more, the two things limiting it is how safe will it be and how much can they increase it before it starts competing with the superduty/start affecting warranty work.
This is where ford has the advantage... when towing, the heavier the tow vehicle, the more stable your trailer will be. ford's trucks have historically been the heaviest out of the bunch, so ford has quite a bit of leeway to increase the payload and tow ratings if they wanted. at the end of the day, it's just a number. with all of the half tons being able to tow over 10k lbs (sans ridgeline), i highly doubt anyone went into a dealership and went "crap, I can't buy this, it only tows 10800, i'm off to ford, cya".

I have been in an 04 tundra, 05 titan and 06 ram, in my experience, the F150 has the quietest and smoothest cabin/ride out there (in some cases, ram, by a long shot).
as for handling while towing, no i haven't towed with all of them but i can tell you my truck was heavier than all of those, something that would only help while towing.

Ridgeline? Sweet sister Sadie! Since when is a Ridgeline a truck?
That wanna-be is rated to tow 5,000 lbs.
I think Honda added a zero = the real figure is 500 lbs.
Anyone who thinks a Fridge-Line can safely tow 5,000 lbs. needs to take a course in Trailer Towing 101.
Fridge-Line = the sales have dropped to a record low.
It's a cold piece out there in truckville.
A 30 day supply of new vehicles is considered excellent, a 60 day, ideal.
Honda has a 192 day supply of Fridge-Lines, which is the third worst selling vehicle in the US behind the Chrysler Crossfire and Pontiac Solstice.

I can't speak for the older Tundra or the Titan but I will agree the F150 is better in the aspects you point out compared to the Ram.
As for towing, I've towed with a new Crewmax and it pulled and stopped my travel trailer ( 5600 lbs ) quite easily. Better than my 99 F-150 and 00 Expedition. Albeit older models so I would guess that the current configuration of both would probably pull better than what I have now.

then why does the new titan commercial say new for 2008 a fully boxed frame?? also once again all you have to do is look ALL AROUND this website and others you will see where people have came on here and stated that it handles a trailer better than the other trucks they have had.
MAN you are way behind on your truck knowledge. better go get some new books and look on the net more. oh yeah and by the way consumer reports whose headquarters are in tokyo japan, just came out not long ago and said not to buy the tundra, you can also geton youtube.com and type in F150 vs. tundra and see what junk it is. also the videos on there with to tundra towing the ford, better watch them close and see if they have the 4 wheel drive on the ford. i have see several where they dont and i wouldnt even trust it since they are doing it on a toyota lot. way rigged for them to win.

i've towed a 20ft car hauler with my mustang on it with my old truck (04 F150 reg cab 2wd 5.4 3.73), loaded with a bit of stuff, total weight around 6k lbs plus a few hundred lbs in the bed. had no trouble breaking into the triple digits with it behind me passing semis... braking was no different than around town, if the trailer didn't have brakes, i might have noticed a difference, but i didn't. From Phoenix to Minneapolis, it averaged out 11mpg, and never once downshifted even getting out of arizona (climbing from 1500ft to about 7000ft).
your F150 and expedition are based on the older/lighter platform; and the 3v motor makes a noticeable difference over the 2v. should try one out when you have a chance. my screw weighs in at probably close to if not a lil' over 6k lbs. putting 6k+ lbs behind it vs putting 6k lbs behind a truck weighing in just under 5k lbs will be quite a bit different.

You lost me at taking anything CR reports seriously. I'm sure I'm not the only one here.
Using anything off Youtube as a credible source??!!!

tug of wars are so easy to skew as long as the trucks are somewhat close, it's not even funny. traction wins those; as long as they pick a ford with an open diff and keep it in 2wd mode, vs any truck in 4wd low, keep the brakes on the other truck till the ford starts spinning it's one wheel, you can probably get a ranger to pull an F150 that way... tugs are generally won by traction, and to an extent, weight... as far as power goes, if you want to see towing power, the stock truck pulls are your best bet. a 6k lb sled will make a half ton truck compared to the 3/4 or 1 ton diesels look like a chihuahua among siberian huskys
there is one on the net somewhere that's kinda funny though, a hemi ram vs an older 4.7 tundra... such high quality that the tundra loses it's hitch and bumper in the process...
