07 Lube Points- Threads Merged.

The first 5000 mile service includes an oil change and chassis lubrication, a bunch of fluid "top offs", and a few inspections. Sounds like a waste of money to me. How much do you think this costs at the dealer?

Does anyone know what, if any, chassis, steerring, or drive train parts need manual lube/grease????

Thanks

There are no grease fittings on the 04+ F150. All chassis components are permanently lubricated.

Thumbs up

My 07 has over 9k miles on it.Ive had the dealer do (3) oil changes on it.The parts they lube are;door hinges, hood latch, and tailgate parts. They also check all fluids and top off as needed.I usually go in there with an empty windshield washer resevoir and its filled afterwards. Also includes a tire rotation,if needed. For $24.95 + tax and disposal fees ($29.00) its easier on me.I figure, after all these years of building engines, doing my own oil changes, flushes, etc. I owe myself a break from it!

'Chassis lube' typically includes checking all oils under the vehicle, like axles, transmissions, transfer cases, etc. Plus, just having them get the truck up in the air and looking under it could have some good benefits, too.

6 quarts of oil @$2.50 (average price)= $15.00
oil filter= $3.25
total,with tax,maybe $20.00
Hmmmm, for $5.00-$7.00 more the dealer can do it.Sure, you're saving a few dollars doing it yourself, but, now "YOU" have to dispose of the oil and filter, you have to drag out all the required tools and such to change it,you have to top off the fluids at your cost,etc........I think i'll stick with the dealer.
Gevans17,ive changed my own oil in my vehicles since I was 15;i'm 43 now and think its time I let someone else do it.Besides,I can afford to have it done!

Yup, it's a waste of money. But for that first oil change, it's money well spent. Not for the lube or fluids check, but for eliminating any hassles for you with respect to getting that dam factory installed oil filter out.

Search this site for the horror stories many of us have encountered in attempting to remove that F'ing thing.

How do you know the dealer removes them? Wipe them clean who is going to know?

Hmm, I take it you've encountered that level of deception before?

Some dealers suck, there's no question, but the filter.... Yikes.

I am not saying I have ever seen or heard of this, but how could we prove it? If the filter is stuck and requires effort beyond what the tech wants to put out... Maybe scratch the filter with a screwdriver and check it after.

Don't Trust the Dealer

I trust the dealer about as far as I can throw him! My friend just got her truck back from her dealer after taking it in for an oil change. They called and told her it also needed an "oil flush" Charged her $90 for an engine "oil flush" You tell me...what was that? It's not about $5-10 more, its about not knowing what they actually did or didn't do.

My dad was an aircraft mechanic for a Delta. One day, he thought he would treat himself to an oil change at the shop instead of doing it himself like he had always done. Luckily, he happened to see the oil stain in the bottom of the box from the "new" oil filter the jack leg "pro" was putting on his engine.

To each his own i guess!

I know several of the techs and the parts manager at my local dealership,so I guess that helps.Besides that, the service manager invites anyone that wants to watch there vehicle being worked on can at any time, from a safe distance that is.

07 Lube Points

Are there any lube points on my 07 F150 King Ranch? I gave the front end a quick look and couldnt see any.

How long do the steering components typically last on these trucks. They look pretty beefy.
