Dually Questions

Im buying an 05-07 350 Dually crew cab diesel soon. It will probably be the King Ranch because their are a couple nice ones right around my area.
My first question is, what kind of fuel mileage can be had with one of these trucks. I plan on doing 4" turbo back magnaflow, and a K&N intake, and a superchips programmer for sure.
What else should I do for mileage, im not worried about power because im only pulling a 32' enclosed with a race car in it and my V10 does it now with no problems.
Also I know all duallys come with 4.10s(or I think) can you put 3.73's from an f-250 or another f-350 NON dually in a Dually rear end?
I didnt/dont know for sure if the ring gear sizes are the same.

Thanks guys for any help.

I used to get between 11-12 towing, 8-12k at 60mph. W/O towing I could get 13-14 if I drove nice or 11-12 if I drove over 70mph and punched it at stops. I havn't recaulculated with the new tires yet.

I am sure the magnaflow would be fine, but the majority of people would say not to use the K&N on a diesel and never use a superchip. And before you do either you need to get gauges. I don't have either on mine yet. After I put some more miles on it, I am going with MBRP exhaust and XCAL II from Matt. Do some research in the 6.0 forum to get more info on intakes and tuners.

My DRW has a tow boss package that includes 4.30 gears. I am pretty sure that the gears for the DRW axle are not interchangable with a SRW but I could be wrong, I am sure someone else could chime in. I would not want 3.73's in mine because of the amount of towing I use it for. The 4.10 are a good middle ground if you plan on driving without a trailer a lot.

The way I see, I didn't exactly buy mine for fuel economy, most of the time I use it, I have a trailer in tow. You didn't mention if you were looking at 2x4 or 4x4, because that will change a lot with your milage. I am holding off on performance upgrades for a little while longer, I am very happy with the stock performance most of the time.

Good luck, and do some more research on the 6.0 forum, there is a lot of reading but its worth it.

SRWs are Ford/Visteon 10.5" rears.
DRWs are Dana 80
Not interchangeable.

With the 6.0, I would just stick with the stock intake.
If you want aftermarket, AFE or Air Raid are a couple of the better ones.

SCT is the most popular as mentioned. A bunch of my friends run them with either DJ's tunes, Doug's tunes (GoGo Diesel/Direct Injection Performance), or Innovative.

you migh want to check the ratios, not all duallies are 4.10s. There are alot 3.73s out there.

Thanks guys for the quick responses..
-Im in no way shape or form looking to get a truck and expect a lot of gas mileage from it, but I would like to get decent because the majority of my driving is without trailer. Although this year it will change quite a bit so i'm not sure... I just dont have the extra money for a daily driver car right now while building two muscle cars.
-I will look into the trucks i'm getting and check the gear ratios, i thought they were all 4.10's.
-And I was only going with K&N because I get a killer deal on them through my warehouse, but i'll look into that stuff more in the 6.0 forum.
-Does anyone if they make gears for f350 duallys?
-BTW I am going to get the 4x4..

Thanks again guys

True. I currently have a 2001 DRW and it has 4.10's, but they were optional axle for that year, according to the window sticker.

I currently am getting around 14 mpg unloaded and getting ready for my first trailer haul with a miata on board a 6 x 16 trailer from Little Rock to Dallas on Wednesday, so I will post back my MPG with this load (I figure 3000-3500 pounds max).

okay so made the trip to dallas with miata in tow (realized at Texarkana that had forgot loading ramps, but made due with a couple 2 x 10's) and I clocked 292 miles to my destination and made the return trip to Mt. Pleasant for a total of 392 miles at 12.1 MPG. I drove 60-65 on the trip down, and 70-75 unloaded with trailer in tow

My mileage, trailer only, from Mt Pleasant to Home at 70-75 was 13.25 MPG.
I certainly hope I can make this better with a few mods, mostly for state of mind....

I get between 12.5 and 13 mpg around town with my 2005 F350 DRW PSD.4:10 rear ends. On a road trip without getting carried away with the speed I get around 14 mpg. If i nail it, I kiss my fuel mileage goodbye, but I didn't buy it for fuel mileage, I have the 4 cylinder Ranger to run around in, if i want fuel mileage..

2005.F350.PSD.CC.DRW.LWB.FX4.4:10's.King Ranch.Oxford white/Arizona beige. Stock motor.

With my 06 cc 4x4 dually, I get 13-14 driving either in town or highway, it never varies. I have the air-raid 4 in exhaust and hypertech tuner(stage 1 or 2- never 3 on tow). I also put 285/70 on it too which killed mileage. Prior to the tire change i once got 17 on a non towing trip with cruise on. 410 rear. now towing i get 8-9.5mpg depending if there is a head wind. i tow a 40ft 3 axle 5th wheel that is pushing 17k loaded (rated 18k max). it does make the truck squat but air bags took care of that. I am looking into an F450 but have mixed emotions

I can definitely live with like 13-14 around town and same or more on the highway. My truck now gets like 11 or 12 around town and about 15 on the highway unloaded.
And like I said im either getting a new Bonneville or a Ranger maybe for daily driving...
Im excited now, I cant wait to get mine this spring.
And if the 4.10's proove to be too much ill just switch to 3.73's no big deal.

Some duallies have 4.10's and others have 3.73's. Only the 4.10 is available with limited slip. I am not sure if anything is different in the 2008's but this is how its been in the past.
