What years F250s had straight front axle?

What years F250s had straight front axle?
Since im always hunting for a good deal i got to talking to this fellow about his truck 1986 F250 6.9L IDH non turbo extended cab long bed. Now the weird thing is he SWEARS that this truck has a solid front axle...now im not quite sure what to think here. So i thought maybe he just doesnt know what a TTB axle looks like? send him some pics and he says that no its definantly a straight axle. Now he is the first owner of the truck so id assume he would realize if someone had SASed his truck...

Sooo...i need clarification, have i gone crazy or what?

The 86 F250 HD 4x4 had an IFS front axle.
All diesels are HD.
Dana 44 HD TTB if it had a regular cab.
Dana 50 TTB if it had an extended or crew cab.

The Dana 60 swap is a good thing if that is what was done.

Monobeam front axles on the 250 4x4's were back in the 70's and earlier.

The only F250's to get a true solid axle were '79's and earlier, and the '99+ SuperDuties.

i friend of mine had an 88 or 87 250 diesel with a solid axle front i belive that they could be ordered with the heavy duty package and they got the 1 ton axles cuz thats what his was. his uncle bought it brand new and the sas was never done to it it was all factory but the plow. ive seen a couple others like that also, but i know another friend of mine has a 93 diesel and his is the ttb junk up front. my guess is it was an option in the 80s and then they didnt get the sa again until 99.

no option. all 86 1/2- 98 F250's had ifs, F350's had straight axle.
if it has a straight axle front, it was either changed out after built, or it is a F350.

huh???

the F250's from 1980 to 1997 all got the TTB front axle even in the heavy duty trucks (i had an 85 F250HD). the only straight axles were D44HD (in 1979 and earlier) and then the D50 (1999 to present). however i would NOT put it past Ford to throw in a solid front axle. it could have been special ordered maybe for a local government or something but it was not standard practice to sell 3/4 tons with solid axles.

i love these white-whale situations that you hear of... you have a friend of a friends' dad who has an uncle that has a truck that has a solid front. i would have to see pictures of the truck and the door sticker before i believed someone with a rare truck like that. it seems like everyone has an uncle or a distant cousin with a rare one like that and they never wanna post pics.

if i wasnt a 10 hour drive from the truck i would go take pictures of it for you but its not worth my time to prove a point. i do know that it was a special order with the 1 ton springs not just something he pick from a lot. and hell theres even f350s with the ttb fronts on them so you cant say that just because its a sa its a f350. o wait let me guess they never put ttb in a 4x4 f350, just because youve never seen it doesnt mean it doesnt exist.

phatpharm85 is starting off with a positive reputation.
I've heard these stories also but have never actually seen an F-250 or heard of any supporting material that says they've had sa. But the F-350'd did have ttb for a few years altho I'm not positive what years they were, I'de like to say something like 83 to 85 or 84 to 86 something like that. It was right in the mid 80's. I would atleast give the benifit of the dought considering some of the things ford has been known to do. I.E my 88 sales brochure says no 300 I6 was available in anything more then a F-250LD, but I saw someone on here with a F-350 dually with a factory 300 I believe(something about starter issues's), and it may have even been an 88.

$5 says it is a F350 with F250 badges if it is after the 86 1/2 model year build.

the only way to tell what it really is is by the VIN number.

year

all i know is the truck came from ford as a f250 with sa front not the ttb and it was a late 80s truck. and it was special ordered that way. as for the f350 with ttb ive seen several but most were early 80s

the truck was a 87 as it had the 6.9and not the 7.3

dont get all personal on us.... we've just heard this on several occassions! anyone/everyone can make a claim. like i said, everyone has a buddy of an uncle of a friend who has the truck but miraculously no pictures can be taken! weird! no one has a camera where the truck is sitting? is electricity offered there?

i have seen and known F350's were only offered with TTB's from 80 to 85. i also know (b/c i owned one) the heavy duty F250's got the D50 TTB as well as a full float sterling as opposed to the standard D44 TTB and D60.

i am very curious if Ford did ever build them from the factory that way. i wouldnt doubt it but never seen one/heard of one and would like to!

*patiently waiting for pics*
