Ignition won't work. '89 F-150, 4.9L, 128,000 miles
So I tried to start my 150 the other night. And the key felt funny when it turned, and the end result is I can turn the ignition all the way it'll go and the truck won't crank. The engine systems/fuel pumps come on, but the truck won't crank. Anyone know how to dissasemble the steering column or where the clutch interlock switch is found? Any other ideas?

If this is a tilt wheel truck you will need a book outlining this procedure and a big bottle of aspirin it is a real pain in the Butt.
Follow the prcedure and don't lose any parts and it can be done.
First though make sure that the clutch or neutral start switch isn't the culprit. Star by putting power on the solenoid and see if the engine will turn over. if not jump around the solenoid with a jumper cable and see if it turns over.If not replace solenoid. if these two do cause the engine to turn over then go to the clutch/nuetral start switch and bypass it and see if it will turn over. if still no go then i would take the actual switch off the colume (it is down lower on the steering columne) and see if you can get it to turn over by operating the switch with a small screw driver if it doesn't then replace it if does turn over then yoy will have to get into the colume an replace the actuator

I had the same problem with an '88. The key would turn easily but nothing would happen. Inside the steering columm there is a little lever that gets actuated when you turn the key. It is this lever that closes a contact to send juice to the starter. The lever costs about $5 but it is a bitch to replace. You pretty much have to disassemble the steering columm to do it. Replacing the ignition key cylinder itself won't fix it (I tried that first).
The dealer wanted $500 to do this repair. I did it for the cost of the lever. It just took some time.
