washing my engine??

My vw TDI mechanic "makes" me wash my engine every 6 months. Says it won't hurt the engine at all and that it makes it easier to watch for leaks or any problems.

I want to do the same for my truck but am a little nervous. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Do it when the truck is cold and keep it out of the air intake (bag it if you can) I have done my own trucks many times With no problems.

Simple Green and a garden hose. No power washers. Be carefull around the electrical connectors.

Washing engines, espessially with power washing is not my style.
I'd rather have dirty running engine then clean with some electrical gremlin and not working.

And your VW mechanic, it sure will help his pocket when things go wrong and he will have clean engine to fix.
