tailgate hinge

The tailgate hinges that bolt to the truck and the ball end that goes into the tailgate, Are these different from 68-72 73-79?? I got a set from the wrecking yard to put on my 74. I'm not sure the year of the truck I took them off. I noticed dennis carpenter sells them and it lists a different part# for the 2 series of years??

Worst that will happen is they will not work. If you do not have your tailgate installed, you can test fit the ball into the cup (for the pivoting) and check the ball against the side of the bed to confirm fitment. The thingie that stops the tailgate from hitting the bumper you will have to see if it works or not, I don't know. (I call them hinge stops, because the stop the hinge at the bottom of the tailgate) I do know the tailgates interchange, Ive seen newer on older, and vice versa.

The hinges may look similar, but they aren't the same.

The question is...how do you know which type you have?

These trucks are 30-40 + years old.

So how does one know if the type that came from a certain year junkyard truck was correct for that particular year?

They may be incorrect, too.

Since the tailgates can't be locked, and are simple to remove, 1000's were stolen over the years.

Junkyards would scavenge parts off a damaged one to sell a better one.

1964/72: C4TZ-9943000-A .. Tailgate Hinge-Styleside

1973/79: D3TZ-9943018-A .. Tailgate Hinge-Styleside

The support arms (scissors) are the same 1964/79: C4TZ-9944400-A
