Looks like an aftermarket "Bull Nose" with a molding attached behind it.

Bull noses were advertised in Speed Age, Hot Rod, Motor Trend, etc in the early thru mid 50's. Many of the speed shops/autoparts stores carried them. They were a popular accessory then.

rc-I've seen some reference to this in the past, I think it included a hood ornament as well. I will see if I can find it. I too like the look as it adds a little more class. Its a sweet looking truck by the way. What is that in front of the rear fender on the running board.....is that a boot scraper???

That would be my guess...found it on a portugese or similar website, NO info whatsoever. It just struck my fancy. I was looking to find what kind of hood ornament etc, went on a '52, with a 6 cylinder. I've seen the ornament with V-8, but not sure what would have been "stock" for a 6 cylinder. This one doesn't have the V-8, and has Ford across the front - guessing that might be correct for a '52 6 cyl. Hard to tell, but there might be a hood ornament on the strip - pictures not too good, but looks like something sticks up, but it might be something behind the truck.

I like the way the mirrors stick out, but not the mounting. I'd like to find the ones that stick out straight from the hinge, not the curved ones you find, but straight.

Thanks,

R

I like the look of it as well. I dug up an early 50's Caddy hood ornament not long ago. The ornament includes a chrome strip that runs down the hood like that. I toyed with the idea of using it........

I enlarged the image on my computer and it looks as though it is an eagles head or similar shape. It does not appear to be something in the background. The search is on.

You guys are stubborn (and young un's compared to some--sorry, I hate to pull rank, but).

This is a bull nose, and the reason they were first installed was to get RID of the hood ornament and use the bull nose to mimic a shaved hood (y'all know what a shaved hood is, right?).

It was cheaper to install the bull nose than to spend monet for body work, and keep from going baroque!

ND - Not trying to be a young punk here but I have enlarged the portion of the photo that shows the "bull nose" I guess it could be a bull nose rather than an eagles head and could explain the shaved hood look as I am not familiar with that.

In any case the chrome trim looks like it belongs on the truck and fits quite nicely.

I didn't see the eagles head in the original photo, but if you remove it, it becomes a bull nose. Shaving meant removing the original emblems, ornaments, etc and filling the holes. Check out Rod & Custom for some examples of shaved, decked, sectioned, channeled, and chopped '50's lead sleds.

I'm pretty sure that a lot of the over-seas vehicles got some treatments we didn't get here in the states.
