I always go to a dealer. I've been to three different ones:
Dealer 1 = $62
Dealer 2 = $74
Dealer 3 = $89
Quick change auto place quoted $96
15W-40 Motocraft
Needless to say - I go mostly to Dealer 1. I've also found huge differences in costs of transmission fluid changes and air filters at different dealers. Pays to call around your area if you have several dealers.

[quote=npccpartsman]Normal retail price--$30 for 15qts of motorcraft oil from Advance Auto, Fram CH9549 for $16 at Chinamart (Fram is Racor OEM repackaged), and I change it myself.
Same for me.

85$ bucks at the dealer unless they forget to put the filler cap on then the next one is free.
what happens when they overfill with 15QT like they did with mine.
ya, i do it myself now. takes 10-15 min with fumoto valve. takes longer to drive to dealer and with diesel at $3.50/GAL......
$50-80, dino vs. syn..
i use the fram filters now cuz they a couple bucks cheaper at wallyworld or autozone/advance, ect...
try to shop around for my dino oil on sale but no luck for the last year or so. use castrol tection extra 15w-40, like to be differant and always liked castrol. its shown excellant blackstones.
$3.50 for the filter (Pep Boys) and 4 gallons of Rotello T 5w-40 at Wally World comes out to: $68.46 and 5% for the Maryland tax. As I didn't use all the oil this time, the next change will be about $8.12 less. Total $68.21. Oh yeah, I used up 35 minutes of my precious retired time to do the work (?). Reason it took so long is that I took a nap waiting for the oil to completely drain!! Real reason was I used my Fomoto valve to drain the oil right into the gallon jugs I used last change. Saves draining an oil pan! Took a while to turn off valve and change jugs.

What we're trying to tell you about the Fram filter is that it's exactly the same filter as the Motorcraft or Navistar. It's manufactured by Racor, NOT Fram. It's simply repackaged in a Fram box. If you want to pay $5 more for the Motorcraft it's your money, but you won't achieve anything by paying $5 more for the box. Personally, I wouldn't put a Fram filter on my bicycle, but this is an exception to the known rule. Quite often you can get these from Pepboys or Shucks/Kragen for $3.50/ea. when they run the Frams on special.
