Tranny Gauge problems

I'm installing the Isspro gauges on my 97 F350. I've been testing each gauge as I go along before I tuck away and hide all the wiring. My tranny gauge however, worked for maybe 1 second I saw the gauge jump up then nothing. I checked everything, I have power to it. I checked the sensor with my ohm meter and its reading open, is it suppose to be open or is it a bad sensor?
I have 12 volts coming out of the power supply box too so I'm all out of ideas.

My Isspro trans temp gage does nothing untill the tranny has been warmed up enough to register on the gage. You are probably OK.

Installation sheet here:

Scroll down the page for Isspro.

At first I assumed it would do nothing till it was warmed up but I did see it jump up and down real quick, so at first I thought I shorted something.

Do the ISSPRO gauges do a full sweep on startup?....

I would try and locate a infrared heat gun, you can get one at NAPA cheap and there a great tool to have around they come in really handy for miscellaneous things some not even related to the automotive diagnostic world, and find out what the temp is at the sensor on the tranny and compare it to your trans temp gauge and see if there's a difference. It takes a certain temp before the gauge will even consider waking up. I believe its somewhere around 140 degrees-ish

I think that if you ground the lead to the sender momentarly the pointer should start traveling towrds hot. If it doen't then I would suspect the gauge.

If it does then I would hook it up and get the tranny warmed up and see what happens.

I hooked it up and took it for a couple mile (maybe 8 minute) test drive. Nothing. Gauge did not move. Should the sensor read some resistence, because with my ohm meter I'm reading open. I'm not really sure what it is at this point.

Whats the temp outside? These trannies dont exactly heat right up unless you got somethin wrong. It should take more then a few miles. Sometimes I can go 30-35 miles at highway speeds before the tranny even reads 140*

It's no less than 45 degrees out. I myself would think it would take a while to heat up. But the only thing thats got me doubting is when I tested the gauge, I saw it jump quick and the needle move, but then it went down and nothing happened. Ever since, its hasnt been moving. I'm not really sure what is going on, whether there is a problem or not.

I just double checked my temp gage, it does nothing when the key is turned on.
I seem to remember one of my gages did what you described when it was 1st powered up....

If your temp gage starts at 140F you will need to drive a long time in 45 degree weather to get it to register.

You could remove the sender and heat it up to see if it moves.

I'm calling it a night, enough playing around with it. I'm hoping its just my fault and not giving it enough time. Thank you all for the advice and help.
