installing autospring spacer

looking for input from those who have done it?

did you follow instructions or did you simply drop the coil spring out and let the control arm hang down and then slip the spacer on top and then put it back in.

the instructions they send seem to make it a little more complex then it needs to be.

and also i do not happen to have a 30mm socket for the ball joint and really do not feel like buying one just to use it once.

You pretty much need to follow the directions. Once you have the spring and spacer stacked up, you need a good amount of clearance to get it back in.

just use a crescent wrench.

i bought the 30mm socket and per some other owners, a deep socket wasnt needed, so i bought the shallow socket. turns out it wasnt deep enough to clear the bolt so I used a crescent wrench and lodged it in while working the other side with the 1 1/16. worked out just fine.

I am not sure if anyone else has mentioned this a 1 3/16 is almost the same size as 30mm I use my standard 1 3/16 all the time just becuase it is easier to get at in my box then my 30 mm

Taking my time with the first side and then going pretty quick with the second side(since I knew everything I was doing), and from the time I walked outside to the time I walked back in, it was 2 hours.

NOW, I wish I would of either bought some shocks that came with a 2" lift, bought shocks the same time I bought the AS spacer, or got the skyjacker 3" lift kit.
Instead of going back and putting new shocks in later.....
Stock shocks won't last much over 30K miles.

I changed mine at about 75k miles, and when they were out, I pushed them down, and they didn't come back up!

It's hard to tell how bad they are..... I didn't feel like the shocks were bad or anything when driving the truck, just knew the stock shocks needed replacement for sure after 50K miles, and I wanted some nice shocks for towing.

get the 30mm socket...it'll be $5 or so...but worth every dime. you want to get that front end torqued properly

My 2.5" AS Spacer Install

my thread ^, has some pics of the spacer and how it looks installed.

btw, follow the instructions. you're asking for something broken if you don't unbolt the bottom of the coil-over. besides, it's only 1 bolt. it's big, but you should undo it.

When I bought my '05 9 mo ago, the first thing I did was buy new shocks for the rear. I pulled the old OEM's off and they barely would open by themselves. BTW, this truck had 3500m on it at that time. Cheapos!
