Talking 07 F150 FX4 - Garaged and driven little - suggestions?

Hello all,
I've got an 07 F150 FX4 SuperCrew, and have had it for exactly 7 months now. I read somewhere that it should have the 4x4 exercised on occasion, on wet grass or dirt road, and never pavement. Is this really necessary? My truck doesn't get driven much, has only 2600 miles on it in 7 months, and has had it's first dealer service at 2500 miles. I will change the oil and filter at the dealership at the 6 month interval, or 3000 miles, whichever comes first. (So far, it's the 6 months that comes first). I keep it clean and garaged, and watch the tire pressures and fluids. Is there anything else I should consider with this truck that only get's driven less than 100 miles a week on average?

And I just can't decide: Extended (Ford only) Warranty or not? Peace of mind, or not? I know that Ford extended warranty's are not the exact same warranty as the 3yr/36,000 (bumper to bumper) or 5 yr/60,000 (powertrain) original warranty, but that PremiumCare 7yr/100,000 looks like it covers almost every everything, except normal wear items. I know this has been beat to death, but it's still a tough decision. I think I need to make a decision before 12 months is up.
Thanks,
JSB

If your not driving the truck you wont need the warranty.
But you may need insurance incase a tree falls on your garage LOL.

Ouch, changing the oil every 6 months sounds expensive.

LOL. Yeah, I'm lucky that the dealership gives free oil/filter changes and multi-point inspections!

I don't know about the Ford 4WD system, but I had a Cherokee for ten years. I learned that with the modern 4WD systems it is not necessary to engage it just for exercise - the axles are both always turning, the drive shafts are turning and the transfer case is too. All these parts are lubricated. Check your manual and go by what it says on that regard. I'd say on the warranty that it would be a waste of money for you. I just yesterday was asking myself the same question. I don't garage my 2007, but it's eleven months old and has the same mileage as yours. I figure if there's anything bad wrong with it it'll show up within three years, but I doubt if anything goes wrong with it based on my experience with it so far. I did like to use the 4WD on the Jeep at every opportunity just to see that it still worked, but I probably didn't have two hours on it over the ten years I had it.

guess it depends. on the truck it's 20-25 for me every 2-3 months.. on the mustang, 7 qts of royal purple + filter + change = 80-90 bucks... every 6 months. for a car that's sitting still, it's damn expensive :P
