While it's true that they have big fenders I'd rather fill up a fender with a tire instead of a wheel. The 15 and 16 inch wheels make the truck look more traditional. I guess it depends on the look you are after...

The fenders are so big that a 15 or 16 inch rim seems to get lost in there. Also the thick sidewall tire looks "not right" to me. They make the rim look even smaller than 15 or 16 inches. Once again because of the large fenders.

I am planning on a 17 or 18" rim with a mid size sidewall... say a 45 - 55 profile.

Jut my opinion.

LOL....I'd never heard that before but I can see how it might be a good generalization. Although I think I'm still a puppy, I'm 42 I like a more traditional look.

.......I have seen some larger wheels look great, and there's lots of great examples of it on this site. Like you said it all a matter of getting the proportions right. Still, to me, I like alot of rubber....lol

Hi
My 56 has a volarie frt susp (with dropped spindels) and a 70's era Ford truck 9 inch.

The front tires are P215/70R/15 and the rear tires are P235/70R15. B.F.Goodrich Silvertown Wide White Radials

The wheels are from "The Early Wheel Co" out of ca. The fronts are 15 x 7 with 4 inch back spacing and the rears are 15 x 8 with 4 1/2 inch back spacing.

I like the 15 x 8 rims with the big rubber lined up with the edge of the fenders. 15x8 rims reversed with 3" backspace with P275-60R. Also, by using the same size rim and tire all the way around, you can rotate the tires for better wear. Jag

Every bit of info helps;

Checked my tires today, one had 5 psi, the other 5 had15-20 psi, pumped 'em all up to 42 psi for now, my book said 60-75 psi, depending on 7.5 or 8's. Them's 7.5X20 all 6. Also checked all the vehicles and had to make some adjustments there too. Now after lunch gotta get the gunk out of the bottom of the air tank.

Glad you found a 56 you liked! Which one did you finally purchase? Is that the black one from England re painted red?
It looks great with that tire/wheel combo!

I guess I'll have to figure out the back spacing and such?

American Torq-thrust all around. 15X6 with 215/65 on the front and 15X8.5 with 255/60 on the rear of my 52 F1. Have 16X8 centerlines on my 69 short bed F100. 265/50 on the front and 295/50 on the rear. They were on the 69 when I bought it but am thinking about 60 series when I replace them.

I setup my chassis on 15x7 wheels, junk tires, 235/70r15 front, 265/70r15 rear. Lots of sidewall, which is the look I want. Because I'm in the tire business, I probably won't pay for the good set, and I may go up one inch on the rim diameter for better gearing, and better selection.
