Dunno what the parameters are to make it work, but AOD's were installed in 302 (and 351W) passenger cars ~ Crown Vic's, T-Birds, Mercury Grand Marquis, Lincoln Town Cars, Lincoln Mark VI's, beginning in 1980. Ford F Series trucks with a 302 got them later in the 80's.

I believe they will interchange, 2wd versions, anyway. I have an 87 XR7 AOD sitting out back, but it's past my bedtime. I'm quite certain it'll bolt up. You'll need that 302's flywheel. Are you putting the 302 in the Tbird? If so, you'll find the motor mounts are unique to the 87-88 tbird/cougar K-member. Check out www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com for the info you'll need. And ask for ChuckW's motor mounts....they're top-notch.

Scroll down and note they only use '88-93 cores.

Bolt up is one thing, last on the job is another. The AOD is in need of updates and beefing for truck use. V8 and truck models are best to start with. A v6 car model....hhhmmmm.

True, there are different shift points between Tbirds and trucks. And the earlier AOD's had oiling issues.
