Hey guys,

My name is Mike. I am a Service Writer for an Autoshop "carmasters automotive" in virginia beach, virginia. We are restoring a 66' f100 pick up truck for a customer and well, the gas tank has holes and is beyond feasable repair. I cannot source a gas tank anywhere...even online. I need you alls help What do you recommend doing? I was never a fan of the behind the seat tank anyways. Please help, I'll check this every other hour

Thanks,

Mike

I don't like in-cab tanks either.
I plan to fab a tank that will fit inside the frame behind the rear end for both my slicks.
The only problem with this is finding a sending unit that works with the stock fuel gauge.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Welcome to FTE

The 1961/66 18 gallon fuel tank was replaced by Ford with the 1967/72 19.5 gallon fuel tank (Ford p/n: D0TZ-9002-A). The only difference besides the capacity is one fitting. The fuel sender is the same 1961/77. I know where some are, but they're a bit far away...in SoCal.

You might contact FTE sponsor Green Sales in Cincinnati, Ohio (800-543-4959) and see if they can help. Green is one of the largest Ford obsolete parts sellers in the world. Other sources: Dennis Carpenter in Concord, NC, or joblotauto.com in Queens, NY.

Can't we stick a mustang tank back there and use the mustang sending unit to send a signal to our stock gauge? I think a bed fill (Cool Cap) situation would be neccessary.

I am curious as well. The behind-the-seat situation is not the safest and I can't quite get the gasket to seat properly. . .

First and Foremost, Welcome to FTE. I prefer purchasing from FTE sponsored companies if possible, but occasional will go with a particular supplier if not familiar with the quality of other. Anyhow, purchase number of items from Classic Auto parts but it was few years back when they were called Obsolete Ford Parts, that's before fomoco threatened suit if they did not change company name. Anyhow, always satisfied with the quality of the merchadise and they are located in great state of Oklahoma, online catalog shows they carry the fuel tank suggest call and inquire. Also included couple articles on moving the fuel tank. Suggest run a search and narrow search to 61-66 forum, topic has come up on number of occasions.

Believe it was in Classic Truck magazine where they had pic's of access door in middle of bed, may still have the article, could not find it online. It certainly looked good but imagine a pain in the backside if intend using the bed. Suggest run a search on topic, if recall, member posted pic's where he routed filler neck just above bed rail. I would probably install a flush access panel on the bed rail and run filler neck to it. Anyhow, additional food for thought.

How did the stang tank fit? and the guage worked properly? What age car did it come from. Another thing, does anyone know the ohm range for empty to full on these trucks?

Hey Guys,

I put the Mustang tank between the rails with a mustang sending unit, cut a hole in the floor for access, made a door to cover the hole. Works great no problems with fuel gage or anything. Grounded the sending unit to the frame.

Unfortunately, that is the in-cab, behind the seat tank. Does anyone have a year/part # for the mustang tank?
