Oil cooler blown at 90000 miles. This happened after trip to the Grand Canyon. Trip started and ended from upstate N.Y. Ford flushed cooling system 10 times and replace oil cooler and EGR cooler. Truck runs great again. Has anyone had this happen? Camper is a 5th wheel and is about 12000lbs.

The EOC gets plugged with casting sand from the manufacture of the block, causes the EOC to fail. Install an A/M coolant filter to prevent this and premature water pump failure. http://www.dieselsite.com/index.asp?...RODGROUP&ID=13
BTW the EOC is covered under the 5/100k engine warranty.
No other problems. Just noticed that my coolant tank line never moved. Took cap off and to my surprise it was oil. Dealer said the Ford suggested to replace engine because there was so much oil inside block that they wouldn't be able to get it all out.
Truck ran fine with no problems and don't know how long it was like that.
I now remove cap on degras bottle and look inside when changing my oil.
Isn't it pretty common that when the engine oil cooler goes south, so does the EGR cooler? If so, isn't it a good idea to replace one when the other goes out?

It does not necessarily cause the EGR cooler to fail at the same time, but it definitely weakens the EGR cooler and they should both be changed at the same time. Convincing your local 6.0 tech can be difficult some times.
Blackhat, I just had my truck in getting a new EGR cooler and valve (along with ARP headstuds) and I tried to convince the tech to put in a new oil cooler with no avail.
So I guess my next best move is to get a coolant filter put on my truck.
