Gonna test the old girl tomorrow

I got my friends 25 ft. goose-neck flatbed hooked up and ready to go for in the morning. I'm going to pick up a load of large round hay balesto deliver about 50 miles away. With trailer and hay I should be towing around 14K pds. so I'll get to see how well this truck pulls. The trailer weighs around 5K pds and I can hardly tell it's back there. Wish me success!

well, from experience, if you don't have a chip, with a 7500# trailer, and 15 1000# rolls a big hill you will top about 45 in drive, if an auto. if chipped, with that weight about 60, providing you are ready for the hills.

i haul a 14,000 lb backhoe on a 3200lb trailer and can maintain 65 mph without too much hassle. If I hit a steep grade it drops obvilously, but if your under 14k your sing right on down the road. esoecially if you can keep it at about 62 to 65 mph. Peak torque for a 4:10 rear end.

Here is a pic of the hay, I didn't load it. It could have been rolled and tied better but I made it 55 miles down the interstate no problem. The trailer was around 5500 pds. and the rolls were around 1000 pds. maybe a little more. This was my first big pull with this truck and I thought it did pretty well. The MPG was around 9 but I had about 25 miles of back roads and some pretty good sized hills. I think on the interstate only I might get around 12 or 13 mpg.

They sure didn't roll those to tight.
But its good your truck performed for you!

Kinda a wierd way to strap them also. but not everyone has straps long enough to go front to back. Those ones there as long as they are, are expensive enough as it is.

Hay isn't rolled worth a Sh$t. What did you have to pay a roll? I've got 5 more to sell myself.

bet your trailer is closer to 3200 to 3600 lbs. Looks like a 25 ft with 7 k axles, 10 inch junior I beam, and since its 7k axles, its a 24 inch on center floor slat too I bet....

Yea. a lot has to do with the rakeing, and how fast the suck it up in the bailer.

He was probably tieing to early, or not paying attetion to where he was sucking it in when picking it up.
Some people just go out and go wild and not pay attetion.
Then again, he might have a really old bailer, or the belts could be bad in there also.
If the bailer is working right, they shoulda been tight.

Those look like about 5 dollar rolls. hahaha.

I bet he paid 30-50.
:P

You guys are cracking me up with the trailer info.
bunch of dorks. :P

I paid $50 a roll and charged $65 a roll delivered. Probably should have charged a little more but still made some nice spare $ and my 4 yr. old went with me and loved it! I'm going to go to Indiana this weekend and will be pulling 5 tons of hay on a 30 ft. goose-neck. What should that trailer weigh? Maybe around 5000-6000 pds.? Will my truck handle the extra weight o.k.?
