How do I find out what bumpers came on my truck from factory?
I have a 1955 ford and am wanting to put it back for the most part stock. It is a ford-o-matic custom cab small window, numbers matching. I believe it is a fairly rare truck. Correct me on that if Im wrong. But I am wondering what bumpers it had on it when it was new. I do not believe the bumpers on it are stock. Im just looking for some info. Here is the truck. VIN# is F10D5D23480. Also out of the factory were the running boards painted to match color of truck, or black?
Thanks All.

Only the '56 of the 4 mid fifties could be bought with a BBW. The front bumper is stock, but the back bumper looks to be home made. The baby west coast mirrors are store bought, I believe. Unless you're a good body man you'll need at least one rear fender, maybe two. I'm not sure how rare it is, unless you're talking about the spare tire bracket on the side. That's not really rare. Woops, didnt catch the cancer on the hood.

100kid whats BBW?Fking that is a great looking truck. Im very confused on what I want to do with this truck. My father which passed it down to me, always wanted to put it back to original. But on the other hand the other day he said do what you want to it. I was going to put it back original because I thought the Ford-o-matic, custom cab small window was fairly rare. I was pretty sure the mirrors and rear bumper were not stock. LMC makes boots that I am going to use to repair the rear fenders and the hood. So it might not be totally stock. Maybe just stock color. Then again I might go totally custom. I am just not sure at all what to do with this great truck.

Since you are unsure of what, if anything, you want to do to the truck, DRIVE IT. While you put some miles on it, it will tell you what it wants to be. Meanwhile, you'll get lots of looks and attaboys.
I suggest you concentrate on the mechanicals first. The bodywork and paint will have it down awhile and you'll need the fond memories of driving it to keep you going if you do the bodywork yourself.
Welcome to FTE!!!

Also on these old trucks other than the engine, tranny, rear end, and paint code determining originality is extremely difficult. My F100 Mentor in NC has a 56 BBW F100 and you can not tell that it is not an original. In fact it started out as a F500 Firetruck.

The small bacl windows are the most common of all effies. As general, most people value the big back window more and the price of the "BBW" reflect that. I personally enjoy the smaller back window and like the to be with masses. I agree also if the truck is drivable, concentrate on the mechanics and safety, and let the truck decide on what it wants. Trust me when you tear it down and start cleaning off that red paint, you will find more holes / cancer than you think. The rust and bondo that you don't see will get you and your pocketbook. Be patient and stay fast it will can / will be a show stopper.

Any thoughts on this ??
